Unsettling; in a time of rough "times" the company chose to shift many jobs to their overseas business unit.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at W.W. Grainger full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThe company has great benefits and one of the best retirement funds through their company sponsored profit sharing trust. The employees do not contribute any money into their retirement, the company provides a % of earnings for each employee.

ConsThe company's loyalty has shifted from being a company that cared about their people to a company that cares more about their profits. They have been cutting jobs, shifting roles to Panama and other overseas entities and expecting more from less head count as well as expecting high profits. There is no more company loyalty from the company or its people. Very sad because Grainger use to be a company people would begin and end their careers with 35+ years; now, most people leave within 5.

Advice to Senior ManagementLive by the Grainger values that you so much talk about. Bring back the Fun, Agility, Empowerment, Team Building so you can retain the best people in the industry.

GOOD ENTRY LEVEL COMPANY.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at W.W. Grainger full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGood company if you are right out of school. Lots of training for entry level people.

ConsLots of layoffs. They eliminate positions and people with the winds of the stock market. Most decisions are made based on short term impact, without consideration of how it affects the employees.

Consall about the number. Mgmt has no clue. Executive board making millions while sales folks busting their butts make piddle.

Good place to work

Government Account Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at W.W. Grainger full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGreat benefits, reputable company, The profit sharing plan is very strong. Lots of opportunities to move into other positions if you know the right people.

ConsCompany has lost it's most prized possession, which is employee retention. They have moved towards a younger less tenured work force and forced long tenured employees into early retirement or they have fired them.

Great Company with awesome opportunities!!

Major Account Manager (Current Employee)

ProsThis company is filled with the best in the industry. Through hard work and networking there are unlimited opportunities. The compensation with PST is unbeatable.

ConsWithout cross function experience it can be hard to handle the work load. There are many resources and you must be able to navigate them. Your manager can make the work difficult sometimes.
