    Pros

Flexibility provided between studying and work.

    Cons

Lack of opportunity to progress. Restricted by management. Lack of appreciation for hard work contributed. Rewards given to undeserving staff. Favouritism displayed by management.

    Advice to Management

Weak individuals within management. Get key players in right positions.

    Pros

Good place to learn as a junior.

    Relaxed working env

Flexible working - home, office, so long as the job gets done.

    Cons

No HR - no policies, all done by line managers who often are too busy to deal with HR related issues

No real understanding of recruitment in the business. All very technical minded.

    Advice to Management

You pay for what you get. If want high quality staff you need to pay them the record salary to keep them else they will leave and they company will never expand with inexperienced staff. The only attempt to keep people comes when they hand in their resignation. Pre-empting this may mean people may not even accept an approach.

    Pros

Positive attitude towards work / life balance, incredible customer base, historically award winning / best in class tech, a sustained hiring strategy more recently in key business areas, one of the largest tech teams (some serious talent with a wealth of experience) dedicated to rec software in uk, location (if out of london floats your boat as it does mine), autonomy. Some exciting plans underway around improving delivery model and certain business areas. Excellent oportunities for junior support and System analyst staff (regular promotions / moves into other business units), new uk md is having very positive impact on company.

    Cons

Lack of innovation over recent years, poor customer satisfaction reviews, fire fighting environment, product roadmap driven by what a developer thinks would improve platform rather than any strategic customer focussed roadmap, bit too relaxed environment means some people in all business units could be giving less than 100%, struggling to make the move from small to medium sized business.

    Advice to Management

Currently managent team seem to have a cohesive vision, majority of key staff can see this and its having a positive impact on environment.

    Pros

WCN runs more products; I have worked in the vX team for more than 2 years and a half. Everybody in the team is really nice and easy going, the work environment is relaxed and employees get a lots of freedom and flexible time. I had really nice time in the office and also at the pub, with collegues. The level is really high and there is a lots to learn.

    Cons

My experience was really satisfying, I don't recall any bad side at the moment...

    Advice to Management

    Keep going like this!

    Pros

    - Friendly atmosphere
    - Flexible working hours
    - Working from home possible
    - Strong software development team
    - Company growing at healthy pace

    Cons

    - Employee appraisal / career development process could be more structured

    Advice to Management

Put more structured appraisals / career development processes in place but avoid the bureaucracy this involves in many companies. Keep friendly, flexible atmostphere in place as company grows.

  7. Relaxed atmosphere but lack of professionalism, no training, no progression opportunities

    Pros

    Friendly
    Relaxed working hours
    Working from home
    Relaxed dress code
Bonus (only in a heavily profitable year)
A good way to get 'foot in the door' in a software house environment
    No pressure

    Cons

    No training
    No appraisals
Lack of professionalism in dealings with colleagues
    Dress code is too relaxed
Most staff have a total disrespect for management + company procedure/policy
Pay is poor compared to the market
The company employs weak people and seems to do nothing about them
Technical department are difficult to deal with, say no to everything..
Senior staff don't take accountability when things go wrong

    Advice to Management

Staff require a structured environment to work in. This means good training, appraisals and a vision of where they are going. Everyone disagrees with the way things are run and this leads to a real negative feel about the place. Pay people better, get rid of the rubbish and re-set a level of discipline and productivity will increase.

    Pros

    - Interesting work
    - Somewhat intelligent people
    - Opportunity to grow
    - Focus on results
    - Fast paced
    - Equity

    Cons

    - Poor management
    - Work can be exhausting with little reward in the form of higher compensation
    - No balance, same cases over and over

    Advice to Management

You need to get your act together and provide everyone with more opportunities to grow. You don't know anything and when someone tries to correct you're thinking, (politely) the general response is not to tell them they are wrong!
