I worked at WPP Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The most collegial place I've worked in terms of people. Everyone was very professional and cordial, even under pressing deadlines. They even had an "alumni get together" for former employees which reveals a bit about the culture.

    Cons

Sometimes long hours and weekends for pitches.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep true to your specialty, which has been pharma.
If you want to grow beyond that, changing the official name to Wunderman DC wouldn't hurt.

I worked at WPP Group full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Very dynamic and diverse client environment which enables a great deal of learning. In 2 to 3 years an employee can get 10 years of business experience.

    Cons

Internal groups are overly independent which cause the wheel to constantly be reinvented. My hours and days of work are often wasted.

Great co-workers, exciting field to be working in, but lack of management, human resources support and growth potential.

I have been working at WPP Group

    Pros

Some of the positives to working at Catalyst include:
    1) exciting and constantly changing field to be working in
    2) great coworkers who are in the 20-40 year age group, outgoing and generally enjoy life
    3) atmosphere is fun, Red Sox centered and active

    Cons

Some of the negatives to working at Catalyst include:
    1) management and supervisors are inexperienced and do not make well-thought out decisions
    2) reviews for salary/promotion increases are often random and not based on work done, dedication, or other measurement factors.
    3) lack of communication when a change in rank, policy or termination occurs often creates unneeded misconceptions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice I would give to the management of Catalyst:
    1) listen to employees and understand what they are saying - they feel the pains of your decisions every day, so their complaints are not unwarranted
    2) provide training to all managers, provide supervision over managers who need supervision over specific decisions being made - most employees have supervisors, it is not an embarassement to give managers supervision as well
    3) provide employees who perform, the monetary compensation they deserve - they will leave if their time and dedication is not being fairly recognized
