I worked at WPX Energy full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

New leadership should bring needed modern changes to their strategic direction. After being under Williams' wing for so long, they've had a hard time breaking free and identifying themselves.

    Cons

Lack of strategic planning and no clear goals. Little room for growth and good old boy network keep the company in the dark ages.

I worked at WPX Energy full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

You'd like it if you want to work for a group of kids with no leadership skills and basic knowledge of the industry. Or if you like to show up every day unhappy.

    Cons

Very inexperienced management. Benefits. Jobs completed way over budget. No structure.

Decent company to work for, but at the low end of industry compensation packages.

I have been working at WPX Energy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Many younger people in management, making it a relatively casual work atmosphere. The company tries to give a lot back to local communities.

    Cons

Ranks low in industry compensation packages; lower pay and less vacation than competitors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the employees; we have good ideas but don't have management (and especially upper management) support in implementing them.

I have been working at WPX Energy full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The salary is competitive and they do promote work life balance. For anyone in IT the career path is a short one, the structure is different than most companies and while learning new skills are encouraged there is little opportunity to use those skills at WPX. The people there are great for the most part, co workers can really make a break a job and the people there are pretty awesome.

    Cons

Not a good place for anyone seeking to move up the ladder. Structure is confusing and not conducive to the employees, interns coming straight out of college would only be satisfied working here for a year or two then you'd go to a company that provides more opportunity. Employee feedback isn't valued, not in IT or at the company in general. Witnessed a number of things that would be considered gross misconduct when I was there, they were all reported but no action taken. The company preferred that the employees going through it quit instead of rectifying the situation. Then bad mouthed the employees that quit, pretty unprofessional.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Specific to IT, give employees actual titles instead of roles. IT, like most of the organization is very top heavy.

I have been working at WPX Energy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The culture changed overnight, for the positive, upon becoming a stand-alone E&P company. Nice work/life balance - flexible scheduling options, including a 9/80 option. Competitive compensation and benefits with an effort to always stay aprised of changes and trends in the industry so that WPX remains competitive. Good opportunities for career development and advancement in addition to training opportunities, many of which are self-driven and free resources available to all employees. Great employees who genuinely care about the company, their co-workers and the communities in which they live and work.

    Cons

While WPX Energy has a long history as the E&P business unit of Williams, it is still relatively new as a stand-alone E&P company and suffers some from brand recognition. Change is and will be common until WPX fully evolves to become its own company and not living in the shadows of Williams. This can also be seen as a positive - a unique opportunity to leverage what worked previously, but get rid of what didn't work and start from scratch building more effective and efficient processes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to be visible and approachable - it builds trust with your employees. Lead by example.

I have been working at WPX Energy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great involvement in decision making processes. Good benefits, trying to get better. Good work-life balance. Management is making conscious efforts to improve the benefits package and bring it more in line with mainstream oil and gas.

    Cons

Can be difficult to transfer within the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide better direction, less ambiguity. Focus on employees more.

    Neutral Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
