Private Banking Relationship Manager

Private Banking Relationship Manager (Former Employee)
Tampa, FL

I worked at Wachovia full-time for more than 8 years

ProsSystems and products were strong. Benefits were good

ConsBureaucracy, Getting things done was difficult. Mediocracy was celebrated.

Advice to Senior ManagementIn your rush to centralize functions, don't "dumb down" jobs in the field. Your customer-facing people know the client base the best. Give them the authority they need to look a customer in the eyes and do what they need to do to get the job done.

Large and beauracratc

Regional (Former Employee)
Miami, FL

I worked at Wachovia full-time for more than a year

ProsGood opportunity for broad range of skills and background; Open and tolerant of different backgrouds and cultures in certain positions. Compensatyion lower to mid range for most positions A company this large is full of change and opportunity but not a place to build along term career after 5 or so years move on.

Conscompensation under constant annual modification and review Metrix driven bonus and commissions are always extremely demanding and designed to be very very difficult to achieve. Almost impossible to recieve above avg ratings such as "meet and exceed". Performance reviews are very tough and even unfair and forget about "discussing or changing" no such thing. You will be part of the CYBOG

Good learning experience that explained how much stress I was capable of handling at once.

Bank Teller (Current Employee)
Greenacres, FL

I have been working at Wachovia part-time for more than a year

ProsThe paid-time-off, friendly coworkers, and great managers.

ConsThe policies, inflexible hours, sales-pushiness, stress for lack of staffing, and no proper on-site training development for beginners.

Advice to Senior ManagementUnderstand how the level of staffing can affect customer service and smooth operations. Don't expect to have low investing in training, low staffing, high sales goals expectation, 100% customer service, and a fast experience. Do not throw your new tellers in a drive-thru with four lanes by themselves until they are prepared.

Not a good place to move up at all

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Miami, FL

I worked at Wachovia

ProsBankers hours, being able to build relationships with customers, a small setting which allows for a feeling of family if working with the right people, paid holidays. With the right management and no micromanaging, it had the potential of being a great job.

ConsIf you were really good at your job, then promotions were not offered because you were filling a need in your current position. There are many years with no raises and its blamed on mergers. It is my personal opinion that yearly reviews are done in a matter that justifies no annual raise. You cannot rely on mngmt's promise of advancement. It is placed before you like a dangling carrot so that you will go above and beyond but when the time comes, it does not come through. There was a lot of animosity between management and other workers.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease encourage workers with possibilities of advancement not morning meetings where you are told you will lose your job if you don't open accounts.
