Company was always struggling to stay open and the turnover was high. Most people did a great job with limited resources

I worked at Wake Health Services, Inc. full-time

    Pros

Wake is good company if you are mission driven and really care about people in need. The technology is better than most clinics.

    Cons

Limited resorces and the constant turnover in staff. Compensation was below the going rate in the area and bennifits were cut.

    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
  2.

Wonderful staff and concept, however very poor senior leadership drags morale and productivity down.

I worked at Wake Health Services, Inc. full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great mission to help those in community who most need help.
Wide range of primary care office types and locations across Wake County.
    Caring staff and employees.

    Cons

Secretive senior leadership controls all information that goes to the Board of Trustees, eliminating the Board's ability to make decisions that could improve conditions.
CEO insists on being involved in every single decision and document, leading to unnecessary churn and stress for the rest of the company.
Senior team appears to show favoritism in promotions and internal opportunities.
Company values are not always demonstrated by leadership.
Very high staff turnover rate for multiple years.
Very high senior leadership turnover, particularly in Finance and HR.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Advice to Board of Trustees:
Remove CEO and possibly two others on senior leadership team.
Hire executives who can function as a team, are willing to be transparent in business processes and communications, and live the company values 24/7 and realize that with the changes brought about by Obama Care and economic conditions, the regulatory requirements for a Community Health Center are too complex for one person to have full and sole responsibility.

    Pros

Unfortunately the potential pros are completely eliminated by the cons

    Cons

This is a healthcare organization lead by incompetent administrators who completely disregard the input of the clinical staff. Consequently there is terrible staff morale and absurdly high turnover. I have been in healthcare for many years and no other organization comes close to the level of incompetence of the administration here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to and have some respect for the staff who provide patient care.

I have been working at Wake Health Services, Inc. full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good orientation, good salary w solid benefits. They see how you are doing regularly and genuinely seem focused on everyone being important all having a voice to improve care delivery

    Cons

None. It can get busy at ROck Quarry FM. Some patient care is complicated and takes more time and patience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep asking each clinic for improvement ideas. Good orientation being done. I see very good clinical focus.

    Pros

The Pay is decent but you work more than 40 hours every week.

    Cons

They have a lot of incompetent employees and that is the accepted norm. If you have any sign of intelligence and can see what is happening, they will terminate you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to what the new people have to say. You can't keep employees... Change needs to occur. Find intelligent workers with backbones.

I have been working at Wake Health Services, Inc.

    Pros

    - Good place if you need some quick cash - they will hire anyone since turnover (provider, clinical, and professional) is 40-60% per year
    - Located near downtown Raleigh, parking is free

    Cons

    - Senior management runs a mom and pop shop and doesn't understand how a business should be run
    - poor profitibility in spite of a high insured patient mix, the best per visit medicaid payment in the triangle, and lucrative federal grants. That means no raises, no bonuses, no promotions, and constant job fear
    - high employee stress factor - constantly understaffed and directed to work on pointless projects since senior management doesn't know how to create value

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Throw in the towel. A good manager knows when he or she isn't the right person for the job.

I worked at Wake Health Services, Inc.

    Pros

The staff at the sites who were committed to provide healthcare to the uninsured or underinsured. The medical services provided are very much needed in the community.

    Cons

The CEO has poor judgment, lacks in very basic leadership skills and is self serving. Although the staff and community are clearly disappointed in her performance, she remains in the position. There are many talented compassionate staff in the organization who are not recognized or listened to.

The continued high provider and staff turnover is a direct result of the dissatisfaction that prevails in the organization. When will the Board take heed?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Replace the CEO with someone with more compassion and better management skills.

    Pros

Taking care of patients that have no access to healthcare otherwise.

    Cons

Senior management has been there too long and has burned many community bridges that are essential for continued success of the organization. Lots of favoritism and little tolerance for change suggestions if not introduced by senior management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leave. Give the organization a chance to flourish under new leadership.
