    Negative Outlook

I worked at Wakefern Food full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, competitive pay and friendly staff.

    Cons

Upper-management; apathetic, unhelpful, not knowledgeable, unavailable. "Required"/"assigned" OT. Not much room for growth, to the point that you start wishing people would just die.

    Advice to Management

Don't overwork the staff. Research shows that after 40hrs of work, productivity declines and drops sharply at 50hrs, no longer being of any use at 55hrs.

I have been working at Wakefern Food full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Wakefern is a great company to work for. Ninety Nine percent of the people I work with are nice, helpful and cooperative.. The work environment is very comfortable and the office location in Raritan Center in Edison, NJ is central to most of the major highways in NJ. I have worked in the IT department for the last almost 30 years. Our VP Alan Aront is tough but fair. He is also a very nice person. My managers for the most part have been work oriented. The pay is fair (you'll never get rich at Wakefern, but you'll never starve either) and the benefit package is fantastic and inexpensive.

    Cons

The IT building that we've been in since the mid 1980's was never meant to house people. It was built as a warehouse and can only be made to be so comfortable. The cube partitions are from the same time period and need updating. There are times when overtime will be necessary. In the development area those times are few and far between. However, if you know this coming in the door, you'll be prepared for those rare times when you need to put in extra time. The yearly $50 holiday bonus hasn't been updated in 20 years. Not a big deal.

    Advice to Management

The upcoming management should take a lesson from their elders. It's about the work and who gets it done. Teamwork can only take you so far. If the team is made up of malcontents, change the team!

I worked at Wakefern Food part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They where very nice and helpful

    Cons

Terrible supervisors, if you're working this summer part time you're not a part of the union so you have to stay till they tell you to and you are mandatory to come on your day off if the asked you to so you end up working a 7 days. I had a couple incidents where I tried to report to my supervisor he turned his cheek the other way, they dont do there job

    Advice to Management

Fire your supervisors the only way they do their jobs is when they have the USDA inspector is there

I have been working at Wakefern Food full-time

    Pros

The job security is great. The benefits are also great but the pay is extremely low.

    Cons

Once again, pay is insultingly low. Particularly to everyone below management level. Everything is political and based on who you know and who likes you.

  11. Growing company

I have been working at Wakefern Food full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people who work here are like a family. Everyone is very caring. The benefits package is exceptional compared to many other companies' packages. This is a very stable company that is growing in number of stores.

    Cons

Expect to work hard. There are not enough people for the amount of work expected. No plans to add help in the divisions that have the most work. It's not an easy environment to work in. There are big expectations and if you do not comply, you're not promoted or considered for promotion.

    Advice to Management

Foster people who are loyal to the company instead of try to break them
