Wal-Mart Anonymous:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Flexible scheduling offers variety of options for workers, shift managers are helpful when problems arise, good benefits and fair merit increases.

Cons

Rude customers can make the job difficult, upper mangement has changed several times in one year which has impacted morale.

Advice to Senior Management

Would like to see more being done to combat employee theft. Some people seem to get preferential treatment when they should be reprimanded or even fired.

Wal-Mart Anonymous in Indianapolis, IN:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

Offers advancement opportunity and above average salary without a college degree. schedule has improved over the years, no more 80 hour work weeks

Cons

promotion process is a joke. they already know who is going to be selected for positions before they are posted. senior management does noffot respond to concerns.

Advice to Senior Management

offer a true, non-biased promotion opportunity. selection should be based on performance, not who sucks up the best. i ran top performing areas for several years in a row, and though I was promised a promotion, I was always overlooked.

Wal-Mart Assistant Manager:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Stable company, job security, good pay increases

Cons

Store managers do not have enought interaction with hourly associates. When they do they undermine what assistant managers have been relaying to our associaste.

Advice to Senior Management

Instead of listening to other membes of the board, find out what your people who are actually running the stores think. Maybe our upper management should do what undercover boss is doing on TV. See what really goes on in the stores.

Pros

This was a decent job with lots of flexibility. if you like a laid back job then working for them is for you

The pay isn't the greatest plus it is walmart. I was fresh out of college so I just took the job.

You guys are doing fine and you guys love your employees. With this being said keep it up and make that money.

Meh

Pros

Nice Co-Workers
Every two hours you get a break 2 (15's) and 1 hour lunch

Cons

Store Manger's Are Mostly Rude
They think the Customer is always right even when they are wrong.
You can only have 3 sick days per year.

Advice to Senior Management

Stop being so stuck up. Speak to the employees. Dont think you are better then us because you are a manager

Wal-Mart Receiving Associate in Paintsville, KY:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

The benefits and bonuses make up for the somewhat hostile environment created by management, in an employee versus employee competition.

Cons

Managements tends to pit employees against each other in a constant competition over who "tattles" and brown noses the most.

Advice to Senior Management

It would behoove you to treat employees more equally and ignore your human instinct to gravitate toward those who share you with praise and complaints about other employees.

Wal-Mart Anonymous in Portland, ME:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

Started as just a job in the 80s and turned into a career. Great way to see different areas of the country for a young, single professional. Good exposure to a variety of projects, management roles and merchandising.

Cons

Company has become too corporate. The small town company built by Walton that encouraged people to think and make decisions no longer exists. Everything is monitored on "big brother" reports. There is little to no freedom to enjoy being a merchant.

Advice to Senior Management

Allow managers to manage. Too much emphasis on what have you done for me lately....look at the entire work history when making employment decisions.
No opinion of Mike Duke because I left organization as he took the reigns.

Wal-Mart Anonymous:   (Past Employee - 2010)

Pros

Pay isn't the best, but it isn't the worst either. There is opportunity to learn and advance.

Cons

It is retail and the schedule and demands of retail are not for everyone. Nights, Weekends, Holidays are all expected.

Advice to Senior Management

Despite its bad reputation, the pay and benefits are not as bad as is said. On the flip side, the culture is long gone.

Wal-Mart Zone Merchandise Supervisor in Jacksonville, FL:   (Current Employee)

Pros

good chance for advancement to department supervisor, but not much more.

Cons

Pay sucks. Management are more concerned with their bonus then associates needs.

Advice to Senior Management

care a little, and get your head out of your ass.

Wal-Mart Anonymous in Bentonville, AR:   (Past Employee - 2008)

Pros

Decent on-the-job training.
Looks impressive on resumes.
Gained a lot of knowledge that has helped in at other companies.

Cons

Discovered that many promises made when I started my career at Wal-Mart were not kept. The company has tons of red tape, very political environment, and unless you are upper management, your pay is horrible.

Advice to Senior Management

Get back to the philosophies of Sam Walton. The company could really care less about their employees....it is all about making money for the top executives and shareholders.
