Former Employee – worked at WalMart Canada part-time for less than a year
Pros – In the first few days they provide good training. You go through all these computer based lessons and there was little supervision. You can get 10% off when you buy things from Walmart as an employee. Most employees are amiable. Very easy to get promoted, if you work there for many months it is likely that you'll become a supervisor if you do your job well.
Cons – Usually the store is very busy, as a cashier you have to scan items continuously and you must maintain a certain minimum scannings per hour. They put pressure on you to get people to sign up for a Walmart Mastercard. It is not a bad card, it's just I dislike Walmart honouring those who get the most number of people for signing up by deceiving or putting excessive pressure on customers. There was this old man working at Walmart who would lie to customers. He asks customers if they want to save $20 dollars on their current purchase, and then ask for their identification to sign them up without the customers knowing that they must sign up for the credit card to get $20 in the FUTURE if they get approved and sign up for ebills.
Advice to Senior Management – Walmart should enforce malpractice in terms of advertising credit cards.

Former Employee – worked at WalMart Canada part-time for less than a year
Pros – Great for meeting new people, easy tasks, requires no experience, and employee discount. It was an easy commute because I lived near by, and served great as a part time job for high schoolers.
Cons – HIgh turnover rate for a reason, most coworkers are unmotivated and not easy to work with. Little to no contact with management.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Former Employee – worked at WalMart Canada part-time for less than a year
Pros – 10% associate discount, nice peole to work.
Cons – Long hours, low salary, managment are sucks.
Advice to Senior Management – You are going to leave soon, because you will realize ( if you have some knowelege) this not a place to work. Job has to be done as a job and not abuse the workers to work 45 hours per week and do not pay for them.

Current Employee – been working at WalMart Canada
Pros – Relatively Stress Free, friendly conditions, no pressure to work extra hours. Salary is decent for work performed and the overtime is there once a month on holidays. We do get paid for every extra minute on the clock, contrary to popular beliefs. Work and extra 30 minutes per week and you get paid for same. Every minute over 8 hours per shift or over 40 hours per week is paid as overtime. Easy to check your pay against the time clock if you know how. Stock purchase plan is very good. Company adds 15% to the first $2,800 you buy each year so that is like a bonus and if you are in the company long enough it will sure add up. Spouse has almost 30 years in and it does pay off.
Cons – limited potential for growth due to age and if they promote you, then they have to replace you and if you do a fine job, they want you to stay put.
Advice to Senior Management – Give a little more praise to those who deserve it and treat the slackers appropriately

Former Employee – worked at WalMart Canada
Pros – If you want to learn the retail business, from operations to sales and customer service, Wal-Mart Canada is second to none. It's the best place to prepare for a career in retail.
Cons – No compassion for family emergencies. No feedback on job performance = many "surprises". Poor communication between home offices and store management
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your employees. Take grass roots meetings seriously, have more listening sessions with management across the country in addition to YBM. Mario was very good at living the culture on a daily basis. David as well as all levels of management must share his passion for what happens at every level of the company.
