Pros
10% discount on grocery and products
It's a great working environment
it's a great place to improve your people skills
Cons
inflexible hours (shifts are all over the place)
Unclear instruction from management at times
Co-workers tend to report you, rather than personally expressing their concerns.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to make it better for the evening staff to participate in the activities the morning staff do, such as meetings.
Pros
Great place to add new friends to your list
Good customer experience for future jobs.
Cons
Very few advancement opportunities
Low hourly rate
Communication doesn't seem to get across, after many attempts to fix issues
Advice to Senior Management
Be more hands on. Actually consider input from employees. Encourage or compensate good work ethic. Offer advancement opportunities more frequently, not once a year. Give competitive wages, to keep employees happy, to an extent
Pros
Walmart will teach you to control the process in store and give you an excellent knowledge in general merchandise. Very result driven
Cons
Very big company copied on the American model. A lot of check lists and report to digest. Need a lot of investment in time.
Advice to Senior Management
Upper mgt is very competent.
Pros
If you work fast and show willingness to do, easy to get recognized. No knowledge or competence required, just do it. This is a great place for less educated people.
Cons
You might loose your educational competency and knowledge once you join wal-mart hoopla. There is no need to be sharp either in communication nor on numeracy.
Advice to Senior Management
Utilize your educated and high numeracy associate in appropriate place such as communicating financials, resolving management associate conflicts, publications and public relations.
Pros
The breaks are long and most of them are paid, so thats good. Also you can receive profit sharing which is a nice bonus for a part timer.
Cons
Management can be very annoying. There is a ton of red tape surrounding what you can do as an individual, everything needs to be approved by someone
Advice to Senior Management
Managers need to be better trained on their roles, paid vacation should be available, as well as medical and dental benefits to part timers
Pros
-job security, opportunity for advancement
Cons
Low starting salary for all levels of associates
Pros
benefits...the floor staff....there is no good reason.....other than its a job
Cons
wages capped when you reach a certain level...not in keeping with the cost of living.....
Advice to Senior Management
be nice...be avaliable to your staff...get of your high horses.....treat your staff with respect in order to get respect....
Pros
If this is an entry level job for you, it's a great place to learn skills and gain experience. Benefits are good if you are full-time.
Cons
Lots of folks are there to make good impressions to higher ups and in turn leads to egotistical behavior. If you can handle the pressures and mixed personalities it's a rewarding learning experience. Wages are okay at store level, promotions are mostly based on seniority/experience. Lots to do but limited resources.
Advice to Senior Management
Make stores more attractive to younger folks hoping to advance their careers with the company, and ensure that great talent is not turned away or left behind by politics of a store.
Pros
They're everywhere, which is convenient.
Cons
Too busy and too many things.
Advice to Senior Management
Be nice to employees.
Pros
My co-workers were really fantastic, which can make even a dull, mindless job okay sometimes. You also get experience working a cash register, and experience with customer service. Also, if you work enough hours throughout the fiscal year you will receive a bonus based on your store's profits.
Cons
Employees are over-worked and underpaid, and there really is not enough staff most of the time to deal with the customer load. This causes understandably upset customers to take out their frustrations on the employees, and I have witnessed a number of young people break down in tears because of angry customers. The management does not adequately recognize a job well done, and the words "thank you" are rarely heard.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop exploiting your employees, and adequately staff your stores. Profits are important, but increasing them at the expense of your employees creates a negative and tiring environment to work in.
