I worked at Walden House full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Helping people, usually flexible with needing time off work.

    Cons

Low pay with high stress. Cannot afford to live in the city where you work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give higher wages, give raises. Neither is done regularly. Not competitive salaries in Bay Area market.

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Walden House full-time for less than a year

    Pros

You feel good about supposedly helping others.

    Cons

Corporate structure is run like big business- the rich get richer, the poor get zip.
Upper management is a big click, and nobody else is ever noticed.
They want you to work your butt off, for $14 -$15 an hour.
They enforce an unhealthy attitude by keeping people who are totally dysfunctional in power.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide better training. Get rid of people who are dysfunctional and essentially live there, working 14-16 hours a day.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Walden House full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Health Care coverage and you really don't have to do anything, but sit on you butt most of the time and ride the clock.

    Cons

The upper mgmt only cares about making money.
They say your family and when you get sick they lay you off.
    Never give out raises.
Non-profit, but has a corporate attitude. "it's all about the money."
Run's the program like a Mac Donald's for people.
If they are not getting paid for the people they serve they kick them out.
Mgmt thinks that everyone below mgmt is dumb.
Not a lot of educated people at this job.
Most employees received services from company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop running the company like a corporation. Care about your employees and the people you serve.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Positive Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Walden House full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Can gain extensive experience in various areas of substance abuse counseling depending on your focus (substance abuse treatment, therapy, vocational).

Staff is pleasent for the most part.

Offer trainings throughout the year to enhance knowledge and effectiveness in working with clients.

    Cons

The Pay: Walden House needs to pay emplyees more in order to stay marketable to job searchers in the field. There's a large turn over rate in some departments, which I believe is due to low pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Simply pay more. This is a challenging population to work with; employees deserve more
