Pros
Many opportunities to grow
Strong brand that people trust
Great downtown office
Smart, young group in eCommerce
Cons
Large company bureaucracy can be tough to navigate
Advice to Senior Management
Keep those communication channels open
Pros
Discounts are good. Employees are nice.
Cons
Disrespect towards employees. Heavy workload. Expect too much not enough pay.
Pros
When you get a chance to work at Walgreen's it becomes like a second home because you and your coworkers become so close.
Cons
Well if I had to find one downfall I would have to say the work hours aren't the best but just like everybody else I have to make my 40 hours a week.
Advice to Senior Management
There's not much I can say as far as offering advice and feedback, the store I work at runs pretty smoothly.
Pros
They are a growing company.
Cons
The insurance has a high deductable.
Advice to Senior Management
They are advancing into areas of Ca.
Pros
Large company with strong health benefits as well as many different areas to work in and a growing company with good stock.
Cons
There is often a lack of goal congruence between management as well as poor communication. Inaccessible and incompetent Human Resources department.
Advice to Senior Management
Walgreens has stopped caring about it's employees and now is only concerned with it profit margins. This lack of concern will most likely hurt this.
Pros
Working for such a larger company helps you gain a lot of knowledge quickly about managing and most of the store managers are very nice people to work for.
Cons
I feel like this company is heading in a very bad direction. When I first started there seemed to be almost unlimited opportunity for advancement, now I see none in ,my for see able future. The company also used to have almost a family feel to the way they treated their employees, like they really cared about them, but since Greg wasson has taken over all they have done is take everything they can away from us, and I feel like its only going to get worse.
Pros
As an Exa of 4 years I made 58,000. The customers and work environment were great.
Cons
Hours, lack of professionalism in management. Many of the store managers had marginal high school educations. Found it comical that that my store manager that made upwards of 80k couldn't type an email, or understand basic economics.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't issue statements about restructuring of positions and expect engagement.
For our CEO to take a 50% increase in pay and benefits while the most store employees get a 1-2.5% raise is a bit ridiculous and sends the wrong message.
Pros
Vacation Days after 1 year of experience
Cons
Lack of proper work flow, underpaid for the amount of work required especially on busy days, due to Express Scripts insurance the hours are cut back and no overtime allowed. Poor raises
Advice to Senior Management
Recognition of employees doing a good job. Motivate the workers to work better and provide better knowledge of workflow to each employee.
Pros
this is your typical retail management job, not a lot of bells an whistles and you know what is expected of you. Pretty good benefits as far as vacation time and sick time.
Cons
Health insurance gets worse every year, instead of promoting from within the company likes to hire outside from other failing companies. They have cut payroll and staff to barebones making it almost impossible to do any more than just spin the wheels of the machine. Stock has been low and dropping for a long time.
Advice to Senior Management
Company needs to not view employees as an expense and realize that they are the single greatest asset the company has.
Pros
Employees are wonderful. Makes working there at least somewhat bareable.
The company's profit sharing plan is one of the best in the country.
Cons
Promotion opportunities have gone the way of the do-do bird. Walgreens has instituted a company wide hiring freeze, so they aren't able to replace employees that leave. Walgreens Senior Management has announced that they are changing the structure of store management, but won't unveil details until March, leaving thousands of employees to worry about their job status.
Walgreens' decision to not take Express Scripts insurance has really hurt the company, and will continue to hurt in the long run, even if an agreement is made.
Advice to Senior Management
Either announce the decision right away, or don't say anything until you're ready to. You can't be leaving so many employees in limbo like you are. Also, make sure there is sufficient enough time for employees to find new jobs, if needed. Announcing decisions on very little notice (ie taking away overtime, and telling us it goes into effect immediately) is NOT a good practice.
Stop over-valuating the services that we provide. This was key in what has unfolded with ESI. We aren't as valuable to customers as you think we are.
