    Pros

Profitable company, well recognized by others, spends big money on projects, expanding international with potential growth opportunities. New exec leadership coming that is changing the status quo.

    Cons

Employees at all levels, including Senior VP's, are treated poorly. It may not feel this way in the field, but disrespect of employees is from the top down. There was a senior leadership meeting where the one of the board members told the the Top 200 execs that they are not needed and will be replaced if they don't comply with mandates to cut expenses. Where to cut? Not the globetrotting private airplanes, not the leases of empty buildings, not the fleet of leased vehicles sitting in parking lots, not the multimillion dollar projects with huge maintenance expenses...they cut the people, salary increases, and benefits... Open positions frozen, critical system staff is not backfilled, contractors are being cut, lay-offs, etc. Stores are under staffed, corporate IT is being decimated, and long-time loyal employees are leaving daily. Even former C-Level execs with multimillion dollar severance packages are suing the Company for defamation. Walgreens is a highly political cutthroat organization that changes direction daily. The Company is in desperate need for new leadership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees are who actually get work done, not Sr Directors, VP's, C-Level people. Every time an experienced person leaves their knowledge of the convoluted systems and processes leaves with them. Cut expenses in areas that count and reward employees that are loyal to you.

    Pros

Nice people to work with in mid level positions of company

    Cons

Management does not list. A lot of decisions are not made with facts, more opinion and feel.
They have started to not really care as much about talent, more worried about saving cost
Most departments are under staffed and very slow to respond. HR and ER are very inconsistent with decisions

I worked at Walgreens full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good work-life balance; nice variety of projects to work on.

    Cons

Layers upon layers of paper-pushing managers; no direction at the company (except for the international merger); endless rounds of restructuring that never improve the environment; very low employee morale. Benefits get worse every year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a direction that inspires; stop treating employees as irritations.

    Pros

A lot of opportunities and appears bosses are willing to help those that they supervise

    Cons

Very Siloed between Departments - IT Help is non-existant - roll out software & new systems but no support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build a better communication process - listen to your employees concerns

    Pros

If you want a place where you can burrow in and not do to much this is the place. It is very much a 'go along, get along' type of atmosphere.

    Cons

Way to spread out for the size. This is a company which could greatly improve communication by having a central office instead of the widely dispersed willy-nilly office space that it does for corporate headquarters. Managers at this company are generally people who have put in time but don't necessarily have skills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide benefits in line with every other Fortune 50 company.

I worked at Walgreens part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I enjoyed my time working at this Walgreens. Employees were nice and the hour were fairly flexible and I could still go to grad school while paying my bills. Work was not difficult at all and everything that was taught to new employees was extremely easy to learn.

    Cons

There aren't a lot of cons to put on here, save for the big deal breaker-job promotions. Even after working in this Walgreen stores for one and half years, gaining connections with other employees, store managers and giving 200% of my effort, I came to realize there was no room to move up to the next level. It was a disappoint.

    I worked at Walgreens full-time

    Pros

I found Walgreens to be an exceptional place to work - good compensation with a generous bonus plan and benefits, supportative culture and lots of opportunities for advancement. It offered a great work-life balance. I had the pleasure to work with and learn from some exceptional people.

    Cons

At times there is a disconnect with Corporate initiatives to what actually happens at the retail stores. Implementating change is a long and slow process with a company this large; it takes a lot of patience and persistence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to focus on fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and innovation. Be more nimble and fast track change whenever possible.
