I worked at Walker Parking Consultants as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Everyone is very nice and extremely willing to help.
I was exposed to all types of projects and different types of work the company does.

    Cons

Does not seem like there is very much room for advancement, other than pay raises. It is a small company though, so that is expected.

Walker can be a great place to work for if you are in upper management.

I have been working at Walker Parking Consultants full-time

    Pros

Great hard working people. Family like atmosphere.

    Cons

Benefits are terrible. Very little respect or professionalism towards those at the bottom. Lots of politics and no room for growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider training management in leadership techniques. Please provide sufficient employee training. Currently there is a sink or swim mentality. Hold management to the same standard as others within the company. Please listen to your employees concerns and not pacify them.

I have been working at Walker Parking Consultants full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Most of the people in the company work hard and are helpful.

    Cons

Very antiquated practices and terrible politics. Unless you're part of the "in-club", you will go nowhere. Bonuses are minimal - if even existent at all- unless you own stock (only offered to select employees). Constantly tells employees that they are inline with other A/E firms but those that have worked elsewhere will tell you that this is not true. Very little upward mobility and the technology is at least 5 years behind industry standards. Management will listen to your opinion as a form of pacification but suggestions are not taken to heart. Benefits are pitiful and expensive due to the top heavy upper-management getting ready to retire.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get up to date on technology and practices. The larger firms are bound to swallow this firm whole if they don't keep up. Especially with the lack younger generational presence. Live up to your core values.

I have been working at Walker Parking Consultants full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Walker is a fiscally and culturally a very conservative firm. Overall, the people are nice to work with and the projects are interesting.

    Cons

Compensation is average for the industry with little room for advancement in the near-term. The company is very top heavy with senior staff who are set to retire in the next 10 years. This places a burden on the younger staff to purchase stock, maximize profits, and help the elders retire well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out if you're a consulting firm or a engineering/design firm. Internal performance measurements are antiquated for a modern day consulting firm and more suited for an engineering firm.

    Pros

Give you independence to do your work. Give you responsibility to go out on site with and without another engineer. Challenging work at times, but other engineers are always willing to answer questions and sit down with you.

    Cons

Can be slow at times (like most internships) but someone can find you something to do.

I worked at Walker Parking Consultants

    Pros

I found working at Walker Parking an absolute joy. This is a group of very friendly consultants where there is a lot of trust and independence.

    Cons

Pretty specialized field. It's not the most exciting work I would say, but at the same time, Walker does get some pretty great clients because it offers such niche expertise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not much actually. Management is very friendly, and because it's such a small firm, communicating with management is not an issue.
