Successful Company, Long Hours (3.5 stars)

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Wallquest

ProsCreative and laid back atmosphere, with proven success. Employees and management are friendly and mostly easy to get along with. Great opportunity to gets your hands on more than one project at a time in different areas of the company. Traveling is a perk and offered to some employees. MADE IN AMERICA and eco friendly!

ConsLong hours (10-12hrs/day) are often required for this fast paced dead line orientated company. Not the most organized when planning monthly goals. Laid back environment also has its cons, in a professional business. Sometimes your hard work doesn't always pay off right away.

Advice to Senior ManagementEncourage your employees more, positive reinforcement goes a long way. Help them get inspired. Spread the wealth

Poor Management

Colorist/Designer (Former Employee)
Wayne, PA

I worked at Wallquest full-time for less than a year

ProsProducts made in america, family owned, small company.

ConsVery poorly managed, there is a huge lack of communication. The company takes full advantage of designers and their lack of options in the job market. Extremely low and insulting starting salary. Graduates and undergraduates are paid the same. Sexist undertones. Designs are rushed and quality is some times forgotten. The company has so much potential for being a great place to work but they need to completely rethink their management strategy. Virtually no human resources department. Everyone starts in a "temporary" or "trial" position. This three month period will be extended in order to exploit someone for labor and then fire he or she without a legitimate reason.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart over. There is high turnover for a reason. Only the most humble designers stay.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

High turnover for designers. Not worth your time.

Design (Current Employee)

I have been working at Wallquest full-time for more than a year

ProsBeautiful designs. Product is made in America.

ConsThere is poor morale. On the surface Wallquest seems like a great place to work. You want to like working there. People are all friendly. Perhaps you are an artist/designer and there are not a lot of jobs out there. Management takes absolute advantage of this and treats its design staff poorly. Rather then creating an inspirational work environment to create great work, its all about speed and lack of quality. Why is it that they do not have a large enough design staff to keep up with all the work? It is because there is a high turn over rate even in this economy! That says a lot. Its a fear based work environment that leaves you not happy at the end of the day. Salaries are extremely low and not equal from person to person even if their experience and talent are the same. Employees are extremely hard working and passionate and they are rewarded with no holiday party at all. You work late even on Christmas eve! You would think a family owned business would treat its hard working employees a little better. After working a year, working weekends etc you receive 5 days of vacation! Thanks,
 but no thanks, Wallquest.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire managers that are inspirational and have excellent people skills.
If you are a growing company you should have an HR department.
Work environment is filthy and not inspiring.
Follow an innovative business model that realizes the success of the business is dependent on employees that are happy and feel respected. Your employees are hard workers. When you do not let them leave early on Christmas or Thanksgiving there is poor morale.

Poor management, no respect for employees.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Wallquest full-time

ProsAdvanced my technical design skills.

ConsPoor management. Direct design supervisors are disrespectful toward employees, especially women. The turn around rate is extremely high. Don't bother working here, it's a step down.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire a proper Human Resources department. Provide your employees with the basic amenities -- clean, working bathrooms, positive work environment, and professional managers.

A factory environment for non factory workers

Design (Current Employee)
Wayne, PA

I have been working at Wallquest full-time for more than a year

ProsCompany produces a nice product. Coworkers are very nice and hardworking.

ConsHighly educated employees are treated similar to workers in the company's factory. Men within the company are treated and paid on a different scale then the women. People are run down and tired and given extremely poor benefits and below average vacation time compared to basic standards within the industry. Employees have basic needs for their work environment that are not addressed: cleanliness within the office area and bathrooms, pest control and a comfortable temperature within the office.
