The pay is not enough as a primary income. Nice work environment however not enough pay or benifits.

I have been working at Walmart part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Almost all of my coworkers were wonderful.

    Cons

Unhelpful and unintelligent management. Customers who think your register is magic and can fix every problem. People who pitch a fit for what they want, and management who lets it happen conditioning these people to realize acting foolish gets them what they want.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people with actual knowledge, people who have worked in the store.

I worked at Walmart full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It is easy to get in the door at Walmart, it is even easy to reach an hourly management position/

    Cons

Walmart doesn't advance its most qualified people. Advancement in the company comes down to little more than a popularity contest.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Walmart full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Customer service and retail experience. Discount after working there for 3 months. Full time has okay benefits. Completely possible to get 40 hours a week even if you're only part time. Free coffee in the break room. (Almost a necessity if you work third shift.)

    Cons

    Barely above minimum wage.
You have to be in real tight with management (or a snitch, or slap on that chap stick and pucker up) to be able to move up in the company.
If you've been there for over four years and haven't moved up, they'll usually try to find ways to fire you so they can get cheaper workers in your place.
    Schedule changes without notice.
Usually assigned more than 9 hours of work to finish in an 8 hour shift, or you'd have to stay over and finish the work. If you're full time, you would have to cut the overtime on your lunch break the next day, thus creating an endless cycle of cutting overtime everyday on your lunch break. Living an hour away, this was practically making me work overtime for free since I couldn't merely go home for my lunch break.
Unrealistic expectations of workers. If you're a stocker, you'd best not stop to help a customer. Management would rather the customer wander aimlessly through the store than you to take five minutes of Walmart's time to help him or her find something unless you can stock two hours of freight by corporate's expectations in less than two hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to remember where you came from, if you even had to work your way up in the company. I doubt corporate even worked a day in a regular associate position with these ridiculous constraints on productivity for meagerly pay. It's retail, not a warehouse.

    Pros

They pay you. That's about it.

    Cons

    Everything else is absolutely abominable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being so greedy, get your hands off of the associates bonuses and try to be more like Sam Walton. At least he had time to care.
