the best reasons to work at walmart are the employee discount and the friends that i've made on the job

the management is worse than i had when i was in the army and some of them tend to be bullys and they come and go quickly

there has to come a time for even a large company to start to think about taking into account the people that are doing the work

Good Pay.
Good scheduling for people who go to school as well.
Work in a team and Solo environment.
A decent amount of freedom in the shop.

Cons

Expect you to work at peek performance all the time.
Constantly work in other department ex: Pushing carts, hardware, lawn and garden, unloading truck, even taking over any janitorial roles any where in the store they see fit.
A lot of managers are put on heavy stress and they apply the stress onto you whether it be by telling to to complete a task within a small amount of time or just their attitude towards you.

Advice to Senior Management

Try to remember to treat your employees correctly. If you treat them with respect and reward them with certain incentives you will be rewarded with employees doing their best.

Pros

Mon-Fri work schedule is great and vacation time. Health ins is ok.

Cons

Expect you to do alot with very little to no help and take care of customers. Upper Management doesnt care if they over work you or if you need help. Beg for time off (vacation or requested days off). Down sizing and making department managers take more than one dept and expect to much to get done with no help.

Advice to Senior Management

Stop treating the associates like robots they can only get so much done in one day esp when you make them have more than one dept to take care because you dont want to pay anymore dept managers and associates.

You will learn a lot working at Walmart. Things change fast and they are always looking to improve things. They don't skimp when it comes to making investments to improve producitivity by adding new hardware and software. One thing for certain, change is guaranteed. So if you don't like change, you will not like it there.

Cons

You work a lot of hours and very hard and often get little recognition for your hard work. The culture that Walmart refers to is primarly that of the hourly associate. Management culture is sometimes very destructive - dog eat dog. In general your base rate will not be near that in the industry. It was not uncommon for a direct report to make more than their boss.

Advice to Senior Management

It is an incredible work experience and it is a great place to learn a lot. But if you are afraid of digging in and getting your hands dirty and working hard, this is not the place for you. It can be a long term career with many options, but you have to pretty much give your life to the company. And be prepared to be upset when your direct report is making more than you.
