Pros
good discounts affordable prices flexible schedue
Cons
careless mgmt, rude customers unsupportive
Advice to Senior Management
be more caring to your employees
Pros
Pay is decent, Benefits are fair. Your schedule gets posted three weeks in advance so you can plan around it.
Cons
Rules change every day. Management treats you like you are worthless. Task Management is impossible. Stocking times do not allow for people to fill the shelves or the features so the store is always left empty.
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of Task Management so employees can start taking care of their areas or departments again. Stop telling management that either they find a reason to write people up or they get written up instead. The associates are not worthless replaceable resources in the store and don not deserve to be treated as if they were.
Pros
There are opportunies for any one. Just show up, learn listen and dont get sick or call in. It will come back to haunt you
Cons
No communcation, no gratidtude, no respect, company over buys for all departments and expects the store to take the heat and get rid of it.
Advice to Senior Management
Train, repsect, teach, develop, ackwoledge, dont disrepect, dont beat people because you had an off day. Everyone has an off day. Its called being human
Pros
The pay is slightly better than a fast food place and usually you can get more hours with out getting nasty. There are benefits available but you have to work 2 years to get them. You can get discounts for your phone bill and tuition, ect. The work is easy, sometimes even boring. There are opportunities for advancement. The dress code still allows you to dress in your personal style. Unless you are a cashier, you can work at your own pace. You have an advantage when it comes to getting to the deals first.
Cons
They expect you to have 100% open availabilty and will not cut you any slack for your children or anything else. There is a point system for tardies and absences. After three absences you start getting into trouble and after 6 you get fired. There are absolutly so excuses. This is over a six month period. Unless you have been there several years your schedule will have no cinsistency. You might work until midnight and then have to be back at 7am. You will get between four and a half and fourty hours. You can't ask for more than two days off without having worked two years. You will never get a weekend off. Most of your time off requests will be denied.
Advice to Senior Management
Everyone really needs to get on the same page. There is a need for communication. The employees need to be trained better and never thrown into an area and told to run it. Alot of employees are not working and management needs to make sure the associates are keeping the store from looking trashed.
Pros
Excellent Benefits and Pay...
Very good advancement potential
excellent training program
Cons
Hours are sometimes excessive for the actual time that is required to successfully perform given job
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to those with experience in a particular area over the "subscribed" program
Pros
It is a good place to begin a career to learn all of the elements that goes into running a big box store.
Cons
Very long hours, being called into work on day off, work most holidays, always a crisis to be delt with at the management level.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop hiring managers from kmart and management actually needs to lead from the floor and not from the office or the breakroom
Pros
I loved my job at WalMart because I love to shop there also. Meeting new people such as coworkers and customers. The job was fun to do and it made the day go by fast. I was offered a great wage compared to what I was used to. Updating my skills on computer for my department whenever assigned, which leads to be a better employee and to be more helpful to the community purchasing things from the store or my department. Wearing protective hats (bonnets) and gloves while working for sanitation purposes makes me feel good about the cleanliness. The rules are good and they are there for everyones safety.
Cons
I guess there are always downsides in every job but I really havent any complaints about WalMart except some of the coworkers abuse breaks and lunch periods by wasting time talking before and after they punch out leaving the coworkers on the job to do more than their share of the workload.
Advice to Senior Management
Open door policy for employees airing their concerns or problems should be held in a much more private place so that others cannot eavesdrop and cause more problems. The management should keep their personal attachments separate when people may have to complain about one of their friends and not show partiality with the knowledge they possess.
Pros
- The Benefits are really good compared to everywhere else I've received benefits.
- Stock options, a good way to save money with a stock that consistently does well.
- Open 24 hours, more shift flexibility
- Some opportunity for career development, if you can get past the obstacles.
Cons
- Difficult to move up from within, most department managers hold the positions for many years, blocking people who want to go beyond .
Advice to Senior Management
Hold your department managers accountable for more
Be fair, and recognize talent and desire when promoting your people
Pay your people what they are worth, not how long they have been there,
Pros
Very happy and respectful enviroment
Cons
None, WAL-MART IS VERY RESPECTFUL OF ALL EMPLOYEES
Advice to Senior Management
Great Job
