    Pros

As a retired veteran, I feel that there are many veteran friendly companies that say they are, however are not true when it comes to hiring veterans. It was suggested to look at Walmart, not the stores, but the Distribution Centers. After reviewing there website the first thing I noticed was their motto and dedication to hiring veterans which is "Pride, Purpose, Promotions". Just was hired and have a start date. As of now, from speaking a manager and HR, there are many opportunities and levels for advancement that you can apply for after 6 months of employment. I need a job now and being located within 15 minutes from my home and the shift that I preferred, think it is worth the time to except the offer. And the pay is great for starting out with periodic pay raises. This position seems to not just be a paycheck, however a start to a career. If that's what you are looking for, try Walmart Distribution Center. I know I am.

    Cons

I applied to 4 different positions with Walmart. In which 3 of the 4 came back with the job status of not considered. A friend told me not to list my Bachelor degree and to tone down my resume by minimizing my experience and keep everything basic. Don't shine, yet. That is what I did on the 4th application I submitted and I received an interview and offer. Now I'm in and time to shine.

    Pros

a lot of hard work involved. but opportunity to advance for those who really want it and aren't afraid to work for it.

    Cons

way too much is expected of lower management, i.e. department managers. three times the work for very little more wage than the associates.

    Advice to Management

show a little recognition and appreciation for a job well done. jump in and help once in a while. being in charge isn't solely about delegation.

    Pros

It was a great opportunity to be work at Walmart. I formed great new friendships. The associates tend to stick together and help each other out, for the most part. The job is what you make it. If you're nice and pleasant and determined to have a great shift it'll happen. The benefits are nice, stock options are nice as well. Professional growth is within reach if you want it. Communication with assistant managers is great.

    Cons

Coverage is horrible, one associate is doing the job of 3 associates to the best of they're ability and management still finds fault. Assistant managers communicating with one another is horrible. Certain managers want to either belittle you or only have you work they're areas not the rest of the store (for self type attitude). The morale amongst the associates is gone.

    Advice to Management

Fully staff your store and watch your employees strive for perfection. Practice what you preach. You can't preach 10 ft. rule for customers and staff and not practice it. Talk to your associates, they hear from the assistants they would like to hear from the head other than barking orders. Take notice of the worn out associates, most likely they're your best and you're going to lose them.
