Pros
Good Benefits with a decent pay for an employee who has litte or no previous job experience to bring to the table.
Cons
Bad management within the branches and poor decisions were mad in order to get their monthly numbers met on a regular basis.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay more attention to your employees and less attention with numbers and money. My manager was awful when it came to recognition.
Pros
Great support to get the job done. Direct managers were awesome always felt like they were looking out for me and my team. Helped me grow personally.
Cons
Slow moving train, the bank was notorious for dragging it's feet on the latest technologies. Probably a just all the regulatory rules we had to go through to migrate.
Advice to Senior Management
Well since there is no managment left and JP Morgan chase has taken over I guess there isn't much left to give advice about.
Pros
Great benefits and sometimes good training opportunities. Overall good team feeling with other tellers since we were all in it together. Lots of locations for potential to transfer.
Cons
Very poor management and inconsistent directions and expectations. Lots of favoritism shown by senior management to middle managers, regardless if they were doing a good job or not. Poor work ethic by mangement- much of the work was done by tellers.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to front line staff in order to improve morale- tellers and account managers are the people connecting with the community.
Pros
large, easy to hide and do nothing - paid large salaries to senior techs and managers - no formal performance review process
Cons
no advancement - incredible lack of technical innovation - large company so management loved to assume a "bully" attitude toward employees, partners, vendors - complete strategy, architecture and management by "PowerPoint". never saw formal documentation
Advice to Senior Management
doesn't really matter at this point - company drove itself in to the ground and threw out the employees like garbage
Pros
My qualifications closely matched the job description, so the interview was easy. Though people who hired me moved to different jobs in the next 6 months, the job has proven very interesting and exectly matched the description
Cons
There is no WaMu any more. JP Morgan Chase did not want to use the WaMu talent, so we all were let go.
Advice to Senior Management
there was no leadership, otherwise the WaMu would not end up being destroyed. Hopefully it will be a good example for other companies.
Pros
My manager was extremely supportive and trusted me to do what needed to be done.
Cons
The company doesn't exist anymore.
Advice to Senior Management
Unfortunately, the combination of poor decisions at high levels of the company, the economy and political pressures put an end to a great company.
Pros
fair pay and benefits, I felt that there was opportunity to move around the organization up or sidways, good work/life balance, met more good people than bad
Cons
need i say portfolio management?; there was a committee for everything, which allowed process to get in the way of needed changes/upgrades/etc.
Advice to Senior Management
Management at least made us believe, for the most part, that we mattered, but the the funny thing is that the retail business seemed to be well run and controlled, but that the same discipline didn't seem to exist in the other half of the business for whatever reason.
Pros
Great location to work in downtown Financial district. 15 days vacation days and full benefits.
health, dental, vision plan. great people to work with
Cons
Some managers don't encourage learning and have a sink or swim attitude.
Small cubicles. no cafeteria, managers didn't trust you.
Advice to Senior Management
don't do subprime lending. the credit industry will collapse. watch out for the new legistlatrion regarding change in terms. make it so
Pros
It is a good place to work. To bad the company does not exist Any more. Washington Mutual was a very good bank.
Cons
The company no longer is in business. It should of made better choices about who it loaned money to. But instead they had a lot of bad loans on their books
Advice to Senior Management
Do a better job at keeping a company alive
Pros
Bonus structure was good and very visable and easy to track. Better commissions than prior employer at B of A.
Cons
Manager was more involved in her own life to notice the entire branch turned over in the 6 months that i was there, including me.
Advice to Senior Management
Manager requirements should be a little bit tougher. Regional should be able to identify this prior to having the entire staff request transfers or leave.
