I have been working at Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Although most all of the people here are very very nice, and enjoyable to work with, not a very energetic place

    Cons

They do NOT Have ethics. They have fabricated information, discarded facts they do not want the public to see . . and subordinates just go along without questioning. Why have files gone missing or not provided in legal cases. There is some very despicable going ons around here . .just to prove the have the power. Politics is bad enough, but deceit to get your way

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do an internal investigation especially when telephonic recordings are used. Check cases with Public defenders offices

I have been working at Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner

    Pros

OIC is a small agency with roughly 200 employees. It has office in Tumwater, Seattle and Spokane. The OIC's mission is to regulate insurance industry through efficient and efficient regulation.

Just like any government agency, OIC is an excellent place where you can balance work/ life perfectly. There is little overtime, no deadline, and job is much less stressful than in a typical private sector. Also the job security is high.

    Cons

not much chance of promotion unless a more senior position is vacated

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    communicate more openly, and freely

I have been working at Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner

    Pros

Job security, retirement benefits, health benefits, dental benefits, optical benefits, training opportunities, continuing professional education (CPE) and time off

    Cons

Promotional opportunities are limited at the top. Compression of wages for all classes due to public perception and union negotiations. Unwaranted private citizen and employer criticism of government employees which they feel should be held to a higher standard than private employees. A career is a career and all should be held to a high standard of integrety.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognition with pay for a managers difficulty working with staff in an union environment. The compression issue is acute. Pay based on program and personnel responsibility.
