    Pros

Great team environment. Good place to get experience.

    Cons

Culture shifting to cross selling over family values. Compensation on the very low end for banking, but team makes up for it.

    Pros

Great back room and most of the people are wonderful

    Cons

I would not work for this bank. Ask around before you take a position.

I worked at Washington Trust Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The perks and benefits are top notch. The overall culture is great.

    Cons

While the goal is to promote from within, it rarely happens. Management can be a bit two faced in saying one thing will happen and then changing the story when something totally different happens.

    Advice to Management

Be more consistent in what you tell your employees, they want to trust you and like to think you know what you're talking about but sometimes the trust in Washington trust is non existent.

I have been working at Washington Trust Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent training program, friendly corporate staff

    Cons

Not much mobility, frustrating technology/systems set-up (which is becoming increasingly important)

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to what everyone has to say from the financial concierges at a branch to the branch manager and up.

Good company, moody management. People in positions of authority jockeying for promotions while trampling on others.

I worked at Washington Trust Bank full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good stable company. Competitive wages. Great customers.

    Cons

The company is based out of Washington so branches in Idaho seem distant. Being far from the hub management and the main people responsible for communication the Idaho side had questionable business practices.

    Advice to Management

People in place of authority on the retail banking side representing Idaho failed the company, its employees, and its account holders. Going back 6-7 years.

Could be good, but like many banks out there, not many career paths

I have been working at Washington Trust Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The bank provides the framework for employees to conduct business as one sees fit. Very few constraints as long as you're getting the job done. Very little pressure.

    Cons

Company does very little to show you a path to work towards. As a younger professional eager to progress, management hasn't done much to show me anything to work towards. They have said - during annual reviews - that I have the capabilities to reach higher and higher levels within the organization, but rarely provide any tangible goals to get to the next step. Ultimately, this has led to a 'going through the motion' type of environment for me and others around me.

    Advice to Management

Recognize and reward younger talent. Make an effort to be somewhat progressive.

I worked at Washington Trust Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a great company to work for with great people. They are very involved in supporting the local communities where their Bank resides. They provide materials and training for their employees to be successful and met sales goals. They also attract banking customers that are more about a relationship banking experience vs. 'hey let's just cash my check' type of customer. Washington Trust wants customers who also value a long term relationship and who are willing to pay maybe a little more to have a checking acct. relationship because that comes with years of great customer service.

    Cons

I found some of the challenges to be about pay increases. Due to the economy, at one point they had to put a 'pay freeze' on our salaries. While I struggled with that, since during that time I took a promotion with no additional pay, I understood that needed to be done in avoidance of lay-offs.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work!
