Outstanding Bank to work at with an outstanding group of people who care about their customers.

Intern (Former Employee)
Spokane, WA

I worked at Washington Trust Bank as an intern for less than a year

ProsGreat benefits, positive working environment, outstanding culture, great reputation among the community

ConsNone! The company is in great shape, and with the Sterling - Umpqua merger should be in great shape for the coming years.

Advice to Senior ManagementTook them a while to update their technology systems for employees and customers but now they are competitive and current. They need to stay current with that as much as possible.

Loved the job, but the people in charge were awful

Priority Service Representative (Former Employee)

I worked at Washington Trust Bank full-time

Prosfun, challenging job. I really liked workin on the online banking team. The training was really good.

ConsIt felt like a popularity contest. If you weren't one of the favorites, you would not grow within the call center. The upper management ruined my experince there.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake value in the people who have been there and know what they are doing.

Great company at HQ, but terrible morale in the Oregon market

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Washington Trust Bank full-time

ProsHQ location in Spokane has very nice employees and managers in place. Decent benefits package. With closer supervision of branch offices, it could be a wonderful place to work.

ConsOutside of Spokane, it's a mixed bag. Particularly in the Oregon market, there's a high level of dysfunction in the management group. Lots of passive-aggressive behavior, managers taking advantage of the company ($$), HUGE turnover rate, inequities within levels and ranks. Poor, poor leadership inhibits open communications among staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementTime for new management to step in! How many people have to leave for greener pastures before HQ recognizes the real problem starts with poor local leadership? Perhaps bring in someone less vain and interested in shopping from Saks online during the day instead of driving in new business? Half of the managers there rarely put in a full day of work (arriving at 9 or 10, leaving by 3 or 4, taking 2 hours lunches – and no, not to attend client/prospect meetings). Office morale was (and continues to be) extremely low for the regular staff folks who witness much of this activity and have no voice. Recommend a whistleblower hotline number put in place. Again, this is very out of sync with HQ. "When the cat's away..." as they say.
