Great place to study and think about students a lot

    Laser Lab Monitor (Former Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

ProsFlexible work schedule let you have balance between study and work. It is really good for students that they have opportunities to work in campus. What's more, you can switch your shifts to other monitor if you need.

ConsNoisy working environment and little working culture. Sometimes you have to clean up the stuff left by the last one.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake some activities.

Department chair does not care about "secretaries" - we have no opinion

    Secretary III (Current Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

ProsThe physician I work for is AWESOME. He shows his appreciation to everyone on his team, therefore, has the best team in our department. Vacation days, retirement is OUTSTANDING!

Cons1.5% raise with increased out of pocket benefit premiums/copays and cost of living. Some staff end up with a decrease in salary. Does NOT promote higher education for staff. SECRETARY is an archaic term and is demeaning. No one in this University is a secretary!

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to everyone's opinion; we all matter and you never know what someone has to contribute unless you ask. Teaching facility, offer staff degrees in the medical field. Allow us to take classes to improve/broaden our job performance, etc.

    Underpays student employees.

    Research Assistant (Former Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

ProsFlexible hours, various opportunities. You're working at a top-tier university and conducting world-class research. There's a lot of cross-collaboration between schools (for example, between the med school and Danforth campus) that gives you the chance to try new things.

ConsYour experience will likely depend on your PI. Some PI's are very nice, flexible, understanding, and supportive. Others are not so much. Definitely research the PI and ask around before you take a job with them. The engineering school tends to pay students on an hourly basis and very poorly--even if it's not a work/study position.

    Amazing University

    Career Development Associate (Current Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

ProsEvery staff member is very friendly, and the high achieving academic environment allows for interactions with many goal-driven students. Hours are very flexible for me since I work part-time, and there are numerous people you can meet with. Whether it is the students or the faculty and staff, there are so many diverse backgrounds represented that you will be able to connect with numerous people here.

ConsWorking with the weather is St. Louis can be difficult, especially in the hot humid summer, but very few cons.

ProsAs a student working here, I really liked the environment. Residential Life Office personnel are enjoyable to interact with and want the best for you.

ConsSometimes there is bureaucracy and politics at play, which can be annoying and emotionally draining to deal with.
