    Pros

Great Environment, great sense of community within Lexington and the University
    Paid, although very little
Intellectual Environment, great opportunities for personal growth

    Cons

Lexington tends to have very little to offer when students are not in town, lots of floating the river, watching television.
Work tended to be very individualized by professor, if you have a bad one or uninteresting project, it could be a long summer.

    Advice to Management

    None at this time

    Pros

Very friendly work environment that caters to the needs of the individual with a family. Absolutely gorgeous area of the country, as it is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Shenandoah Valley in southern Virginia.

    Cons

Pay could be higher, especially with the tuition that is charged to the students.

I have been working at Washington and Lee part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunities for student employment within academic departments and staff, friendly offices and nice facilities

    Cons

Work study jobs can be mundane, you're often paid to wait around to be told what to do. Lots of copymaking and the like.

    Pros

Very flexible hours, great atmosphere, cheap cost of living, the job I had will prove to be very helpful in starting a career in a similar area to the research I got funded to work on while working here.

    Cons

Lexington is not the most interesting place on earth, the work gets a bit redundant, sometimes research advisor was very busy with other projects

    Advice to Management

Keep on doing what you've been doing! You made me feel like a very valuable part of the W&L student community and my experience under your management will help me big time in my career path

    Pros

Honor Code, and the general accountability understanding that results. People are given the freedom to work as they see fit as long a job is done and done well.

    Cons

Sometimes the students can be outrageous. But most are very respectful. And obviously, being a college campus, jobs vary far and wide, service jobs will differ vastly from administrative.

  8. Nice people, smart students, plenty of money for student and professional development

    Pros

-Most people here are very nice, and the staff is competent.
-Students are bright, though some could work harder.
-There are numerous small purses for summer research students, additional stipends, conference travel, visiting speakers, and entertainment. If you need to do something good for students or your professional development, there is money/time/opportunity for it, and that is quite fulfilling.

    Cons

-People are people, and some influential people (at least in my stay) are passive-aggressive, secretive, manipulative, or dishonest in some way.
    -Tiny town.

    Advice to Management

Aim higher. Expect more of your students. You seem to extol the successes while at the same time maintaining a low-enough bar to avoid embarrassing anyone. It should be possible to fail.

    Pros

Definitely a worthwhile resume builder and a good opportunity to see what lab work would be like full time. The hours for research work are flexible, depending on your Professor, and can be very self driven.

    Cons

Sometimes the lack of structure made it difficult to feel like you were accomplishing meaningful goals.

    Advice to Management

It would be great if Professors could give more tasks to their research analysts in order to free up their time to teach and be more available for students.

    Pros

Work Study is an opportunity for students to earn money through the school via the federal government.
Professors are flexible yet firm with their student employees. It is clear that academics come first. A great opportunity to expand your horizons into departments and areas you would never have been in before.

    Cons

Hours can be long, and occasionally required to work weekends and late nights, depending on position. Pay is not excellent, but good for a secure college job.

    Advice to Management

    None

    Pros

Great learning environment, Interesting caseload, Opportunities to actively participate in courtroom representation for complex civil situations, Collegial atmosphere, Excellent system

    Cons

The pay is not very high, but a position with the CLPC more than makes up for salary with the work environment, other staff members, caliber of the projects and the impact on the community.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work
