    Pros

A lot of nice people work here. Casual office.

    Cons

Lots of secrecy and closed door meetings. Employees are treated okay, but the managers are treated and rewarded all the time. If you are young and have an accounting degree, this is the place for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open with employees and don't be so secrettive about everything. Be a little more generous with staff instead of just the managers.

I have been working at Waste Connections full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I've been working here for two years, and like most companies, there are several pros and cons. This company has a clear vision of where it wants to go for the future which is evident by it's growth in volume and price. The company has focused on smaller markets where there is less competition, making it easier to sell the service. There is also a good amount of training for the new reps who are being introduced into the market. Work/life balance has been great.

    Cons

Commission structure is a bit sketchy. I've seen the payouts change several times now since I started working for Waste Connections...none were in the reps' favor. There is still money to be made in the market though. Reps are compensated for gas, but it's a set monthly amount that gets taxed instead of a mileage reimbursement. Those are my main concerns. Most everything else would be considered nitpicking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Changes need to be made to the commission structure that are more favorable to the rep. The company is moving in the right direction. Keep the people out in the field happy and this company will continue to show strong growth in volume.

I worked at Waste Connections full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good people who work there, at least some of them. Decent insurance benefit. This company has the potential to be great in this city but the management style is horrific.

    Cons

Where to start. Tell you that you can move up, then you can't. Half the employees are related, so they will stab you in the back. Management sleeps with hourly employees. Dishonest management; tells you one thing, does another. Doesn't matter if you worked there for 10 years, you don't get paid for your unused vacation. Don't bother suggesting how to better the way things are run, they'll take your idea and steal it from you, taking full credit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Suggest you get new management on all levels. Those who you think are a good, positive influence aren't what they seem. Sad to see you are so blind to the reality of what and who is wrong with your Tennessee district.

I have been working at Waste Connections full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Laid back atmosphere
    Cool bosses, with great understanding
Vacation is encouraged, so taking time-off is usually easy.

    Cons

Wage is low, And the yearly raises of 2% at such a low wage is almost non existent.

Very few advancement opportunities, Unless you are good friends with management, you can pretty much forget getting a chance at any advancement.

There is an extreme amount of favoritism, alot of positions are filled without giving current employee's a chance to interview.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Install some sort of training programs for the lower workers there to have a chance at advancement.

Structure the wages better, I've been with the company over 3 years and people are coming in at the same wage as me.
