Pros
WM believes in being green and encourages recycling.
Cons
sever micro-management at least where I was employed.
Advice to Senior Management
give people a little rope.
Pros
People are great. Company is doing some very exciting work. Small details were thought through. Great location. Employees get what the vision for the company is and can get behind it.
Cons
Departments need to talk to each other more. Extremely conservative atmosphere, seemed like general lack of trust. Little to no job security.
Advice to Senior Management
Departments HAVE to figure out how to work together. Few people feel that they have job security, causing certain individuals to leave by choice. Keep all staff well-informed of management staff changes.
Pros
Great benefits. Decent compensation. Reasonably stable work environment unless you are in IT.
Cons
IT is stuck in a downward spiral. Most people with options elsewhere are leaving. The rest are constantly worried about being laid off by a strong-armed leadership that wants results produced "no matter what".
Advice to Senior Management
Take a step back and figure out what you want to accomplish and align everyone to that vision. Engage the business teams rather than "teaching them what they need". And stop trying to throw more money/people at projects to get them done in shorter times. Sometimes, it does take 9 months to make a baby.
Pros
Flex Time
Location
Okay pay depending on previous experience
Cons
Low Morale
Low Rises
Senior leadership has no idea what going on.
Pros
Benefits - insurance, 401K, stock purchase plans were great. Some managers were really easy to work with. Liked the fact they promoted 'green'
Cons
Lord help you if you get sick and don't call in 24 hours in advance. Even with a doctor's note stating that you should not work, you were written up if you didn't have permission to be out beforehand. The center I was in was nothing but one person giving another their cold. Each day 2 - 3 people would be sick, but no one would call in for fear of being 'dinged'.
I personally think that all "lead" positions are a waste of resources for this company. They sit and talk among themselves, but yell (scream is a better word) from the back of the room if someone goes off the in-bound phone to assist a customer who calls in on a direct number. I have seen these "leads" - who never once worked a day in customer service - chase someone down who was in the restroom to tell them they were in the 'wrong status' to be in the restroom. These same leads don't think twice about calling in, arriving late, etc, with no penalties, nor do they ever pick up a phone - even with calls waiting.
This company allows districts to have different policies than the corporate ones. Make the policies uniform and get rid of all the human resources people that you have at each district. One center does not need 3 HR people.
Advice to Senior Management
Get involved in the day to day operations of the call centers. This is where your customers all call in. Arrive unannounced. You'll see the real picture - not the 'doctored one' you see when you announce your visit beforehand.
Pros
The pay is very good, as a residential route manager you have allot of free time to conduct your daily task. the qrtly. bonus program can be very rewarding if you make your numbers.
Cons
the biggest issue is all managers are expected to work 10 plus hours a day even if there is not enough work to keep you there. They also took away company trucks that we were able to drive home daily, which saved on gas and your car wear and tear.
Advice to Senior Management
The next year is crucial to the viablility of WM and if they will continue to make a profit or have to resort to Bankruptcy.
Pros
Employees that work there are good people. Most are willing to help on routes and in the yard. good group of people.
Cons
The communication from upper management needs to improve. There also needs to be a mentoring program but in place at all levels.

Pros
BEFITS,BENFITS,BENFITS and benifits no more
Cons
the company has a very wierd policy if one day you decide to get a higher position you will never and i mean never get what the position pays you only get 10% increase example:if the posistion offers 20$ hourly and you working in WM and you making 15$ in hour you will only gwt 16.50$ even if the position offers 20$ so they will hire someone off the street and they will train this person for 3 to 4month and he will get the right pay but if you an employee and start a new position you don't get the money you deserve
Advice to Senior Management
senior managment needs to take a look at the hourly pay and the salary and compare it with the trraffic or the amount of work they very out touch with the small guys
Pros
Benefits and proximity to home.
Cons
Very poor communications between departments. Micro-management and lack of support from supervisors and managers make for a very unhealthy environment.
Very frustrating to have experience and knowledge of your job but have to answer to management who have never handled a customer call and who do not have the knowledge of systems and procedures to do the right thing.... Lots of intra-department gotcha mentality....No consistent procedures in place....The bottom of the food chain (i.e., customer service, dispatch) suffer the most.
Advice to Senior Management
Everyone in management and supervision should be required to do the work of their subordinates for at least one full week and be rated for that work before assuming their positions.
Pros
Coworkers are a great group of people to work with daily. Benefit package is the great and has it all.
Cons
Too many metrics working against each other. Employees are negative and unhappy. New equipment would be nice in the future.
Advice to Senior Management
Get upper management to stop looking down on employees, focus less on the might dollar and more on your people.
