I have been working at Waste Management full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

the only pro's working for this jumbo joke is well you can coast and fool the bosses till you look for another job. Its really a good vacation,

    Cons

The company is a joke. Sales girls riding around golf sponsored event in golf cart while making a joke out of them selves, they didn't realize how stupid they looked and the laughs behind their backs. Service is laughable like it is on most of the East Coast.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of all those ebit programs and other non sense and let your people sell. And sales managers get off your fat duffs and i mean fat duffs and get real.

    Pros

Not sure that there was anything positive during my 15 months at this company.

    Cons

Management has no concept of employee confidentiality and discusses everything told to her with other employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If a department has an employment turnover of 23 people coming in and going out during a term of 15 months, perhaps someone in an upper level management position needs to look into the reasons for this issue. When a Manager finds out that one of his employees called the Ethics Hotline to report issues and confronted the employee and sweeps all items on his desk to the floor and screams "If you would do your (expletive deleted) job then I wouldn't have to yell at you!". This same manager showed the same employee's write up to the ENTIRE department and then laughed at it and said "Everyone knows that you're a (expletive deleted) up, so what's the difference?" Other departmental supervisors take conversations regarding her employee's health, family, marriage or their issues at work and, under the guise of "Counselling" discusses this information with other employees - there is absolutely NO feeling of confidentiality, privacy, or professionalism. Our Facility Manager decided that the women in our call-center would be escorted to the ladies room by a supervisor, waits for the supervisor to look at the status of the ladies room and must wait for the supervisor to again check the room for cleanliness before being allowed to go back to work. When was the last time that YOU as an adult were escorted to the bathroom?

I have been working at Waste Management full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good benefits / annual bonus (if at all paid)

    Cons

Sometime back some WM resources were consolidated under an acquisition to form WML. Management runs like a 7-11 store. Every year repeated chant is to 'cut costs' which includes staffing with inexpensive overseas workers on something called a 'H1-V' visa. Management aggressively commits to revenue goals and timelines to please the higher-ups and dumps requirements on resources. Result is resources assigned work on completely profile unrelated tasks. Logisticians asked to draft Client contracts, system admins processing client data reports and junior analysts to supervise developers and annual appraisal time asked Why couldnt you deliver more on your core responsibilities...? No appreciation for work and when goals are missed, employees are axed every 2-3 years. Aint no place if youre looking for career. The overseas back office is a sweat shop run by straw yes-men aping the management here..

    Pros

None, nothing, nada, the trucks have radios with aux inputs

    Cons

RSI is the contracted site for waste management, you are not treated or paid like a regular driver even though you drive more than the regular Garbage driver. Benefits cost up to $150 a month for a family plan, no raises, and no opportunity to move up or transfer

I worked at Waste Management full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

You will get to see the inner workings of the higher level executives.

    Cons

Benefits have been dwindling for years. They discontinued continuing education, there are layoffs every 2 years or more and constant reorganization. The goal is always to cut costs - even if you are profitable employee bringing in revenue - you will get cut. Everyone eventually does.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None - they are nonresponsive, unless you can drive up their dividends for the thousands of stocks they are issued on the backs of hardworking employees. Fix basics needs on drivers trucks - a wooden dowel to keep a drivers seat in place is an embarrassment to the industry.

I worked at Waste Management full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

i met great hard working people here and most of them are still my friends , and this is it !

    Cons

too many to list so i`ll write the most commons , their equipment is falling apart they never have money to fix their trucks , mechanics claim they do that to save money and therefore get a bigger bonus at the end of the month , pay rate is bad compared to what other companies pay their employees , taking in consideration that others companies have two lifters in the back of the truck , their management is terrible , theres no communication among them at all , like theyre there to boss people around and thats it , the way the treat people is bad , youre just a number , i hardly ever took a day off , even to renew your license was a problem , they would tell you like go after work they close late tonight ! and if you didnt theyd write you up , or you woulnt be on the roster the next day , or they would place you on a random/unknown route , now they do have cameras on their trucks which they said they were going to be used for insurance purposes ( lie ) they use them to scare drivers away , specially if you were up in seniority or payrate you would be their next target , and work their way down till they hire or bring new guys in at a lower payrate and no seniority , now they push you to the limits , these people are so bonus driven is not even funny , so they conduct some meeting before you go out on the route and they tell you go out there and break a leg , which theres nothing wrong with that but you dont expect that from a company that has a rule book bigger than a bible , i mean there are rules here that are so insane in case you have an accident theyre covered , therefor theyd trow you under the bus when the big shots are in the office , they would say something like ;oh we tell them not to do that , they know better ; , but they never say i told them to hurry up and finish the route quick , and theres alot more to add here but i dont think theyre worth my time writing all this for nothing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

treat people better and treat them as human beings not as machines , we have families and lives and kids to live for !
