I have been working at Waste Management

    Pros

Hard working conscientious employees that try to do right and come here believing they can help improve the environment and provide good service.

    Cons

Poor leadership. Lay offs every 2 years. If you go here you will be laid off. Sr management laid off half their corporate staff recently and then rewarded themselves with a golf trip on the private corporate jets. I personally know a woman with a six year old child who was rendered homeless in the last round. The company was highly profitable at the time. Considering the largest shareholder is Bill Gates, the wealthiest man in the World,!It seemed heartless to me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please get a vision for the future or get out. At very least, cut out hiring so many people away from stable employment, when you know you will fire many of them two years later. Also, your use of payed bloggers to bury these messages is dishonest.

I worked at Waste Management full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Above average benefits & salary, stress-less work, flexible

    Cons

Clueless managers, cannot handle projects, unable to predict, or coordinate his team. Good-old-boys club which means new comers have no place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you still have share holder in mind, try to drive the company to be more efficient and effective. Get rid of those mid-level managers who are there only for their tenure. You need LEADERS, not managers by the title.

I worked at Waste Management full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Stable work environment. Good health benefits. Located just off the expressway. They offer vacation pay and sick days and paid holidays.

    Cons

Limited room for advancement. Upper management ignores quality and honesty of work in exchange for better financial numbers, creating low employee moral.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward and utilize hardworking honest employees. Focus more on accuracy and real data to obtain long term success

I have been working at Waste Management

    Pros

None - do not apply for a job here.

    Cons

Salaried position, promised only 40 hours per week. Was at the office a minimum of 60 hours per week, but usually more like 70 hours per week. Discussed with my manager and he said "You need to work as many hours as it takes to get the job done". That was NOT what was discussed in the interview or the terms of my employment. I quit after 9 months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be straightforward about expected work hours and pay the employee accordingly.

I worked at Waste Management full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Awesome benefits, great salary, and commission for sales positions. Good flexible schedule in outside sales.

    Cons

Way too much micromanagement. Also price increases make keeping customers nearly impossible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care more about your employees than the stock market. Losing way too many good employees.

I worked at Waste Management full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Innovative waste solutions. Cool place to work.

    Cons

A lot of talk... The leadership team fulfills the definition of insanity: does the same things over and over while expecting different outcomes. Leadership team is too tactical - not enough planning before reacting and implementing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

SLT should work together more to include additional levels of leaders. Your should practice what you preach. The culture and values of the company would be awesome if the SLT created a zero tolerance for violations. Instead, the SLT looks the other way allowing problems to fester without addressing.

    I worked at Waste Management

    Pros

Allow you to move departments. I went from finance to operations to sales over 5 years

    Cons

Limited growth industry, so always layoffs. Survived 3 major and 4 minor layoffs in 11 years. Constant restructure, RIFS, whatever they want to call it, but end of the day the company went from about 52000 employees to 43000 employees with most of the cuts coming on management and sga side.
