I have been working at Waters full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Financially healthy company which provides a very stable work environment.
There is a significant variety of technically challenging projects to work on.
The company promotes employee development with in-house and university training.

    Cons

Some responsibility overlap between departments allows for some inefficency.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less technical responsibility should be given to management to all allow them to focus more on project and resource management.

    I worked at Waters

    Pros

great technology, market leader, nice work/life balance, nice co-workers

    Cons

depending upon organization you will need a lot of tenure to be promoted
compensation is typically lower than comparable jobs trade-off for job security? not much bonus payout for a company with so much cash on hand

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

too many middle managers, need more frequent corporate communications and structured performance metrics to all levels

    I worked at Waters

    Pros

Well organized management. Projects and products are well organized relative to most companies,

    Cons

Management attitude towards employees is generally not good. Employees are viewed as tools that can easily be replaced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees as valuable assets that can make a difference and your results will be greater. Balance better what Wall Street says vs what is right.

    I worked at Waters

    Pros

High quality co-workers, very customer-focused which company and products highly respected in industry, market leading products, innovation in the market compared to competition, highly knowledgeable and respectful management and helpful co-workers, very challenging work environment, family-like work atmosphere.

    Cons

Too much travel, felt like there were no immediate opportunities for advancement without being at the company for a long time, co-workers selected for promotion were not well received/respected by others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall management does a fantastic job. Promote individuals who really know the customer and products well and who are well respected by their peers and co-workers, not the ones who have management's 'ear' and suck up on their way to a promotion. Do more to connect with the employees 2 or more levels below your level.

    Pros

state of art instruments provide incompatible oppertunites for R&D. people can learn more from work and easily transfer to big pharms.

    Cons

salary is not satisfied comparing to comparing the peers. The location is near boston and the living expense is relatively high.

    I worked at Waters

    Pros

They were willing to hire if the job needed more hands. Development, evaluation and managers were willing to make the necessary changes to allow the work to flow in a proper work week and to meet the schedule.
Company had and was willing to invest in technology to make the job easier. If you could make a reasonable case to the managers, they would bring it forward.
They often used cutting edge technologies in development.
Many the company had long tenures, someone who was there for 7 years was considered a newbie.
They have 2 on site fully equipped gyms with a personal trainer in each.

    Cons

The only con was that it was not very convenient to the Boston area.
There are 3 offshore sites where development occurs, this does cause a bit of an issue when needing to resolve problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the environment fun and challenging. Allow more flexibility to work from home. Find a way to limit meetings during the week so people can spend a 1/2 day or full day concentrating on work.

    I worked at Waters

    Pros

The people at Waters are great to work with. There are flexible hours and there are many people who are willing to help.

    Cons

However, there doesn't seem like there is room to advance. It seems like the company is too large for its own good.
