I have been working at Watkins & Shepard Trucking full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – This is the only trucking company I have worked for and I have stayed many years. The dispatch is friendly and helpful and the staff at the terminals are also. I have always found them very accommodating for home time which is a big plus.
Cons – I really like working for this company. One con is that their equipment has begun to age so a little more down time. But they do have their own shops and have increased break down pay.
Advice to Senior Management – I think some sort of driver improved retention/relations program would be good. Not sure how to do it, but I think it would be good to make drivers feel more a part of the company as a whole, especially new drivers. What happened to the newsletter? The old one with new drivers and driver news. The safety newsletter is OK but it seems a bid negative and impersonal.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

I worked at Watkins & Shepard Trucking
Pros – The people. The people you work with inside the terminals are some of the best people I have ever meet. They treat everyone like family. The individual terminals really go out of their way to support both the customers and their fellow employees.
Cons – The pay leaves something to be desired. They typically pays less then equal jobs in the surrounding areas. The executive management is extremely arrogant. Their current position is they would rather replace you than consider your ideas. They are losing some very valuable people due to their indifference.
Advice to Senior Management – If you don't support your key people, times are going to continue to get worse. You need to focus on who and what you have, rather than grasping for new contracts and letting very good people slip away from the company. The customers and employees are the ones who have keep the company going in the bad times, don't forget that.
