Pleasant place to begin a career.

Chemist III (Current Employee) Corona, CA

ProsWatson pays an average salary and provides competitive benefits. Most of the people who work here are pleasant enough. If you are lucky enough to be working at site that is being expanded, then there are plenty of opportunities for upward growth.

ConsThe site I work at is notorious for its compliance issues and mismanagement, which have only worsened through the years.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't be afraid to manage. It is not fair to your employees to rely so heavily on just a few while allowing the rest to loaf. If you choke off funding to site then don't be surprised when the quality suffers. A healthy site requires the following: talented employees, competitive wages, reliable equipment, and reasonable expectations.

    Poor place to work

    (Current Employee) Corona, CA

ProsVery good 401K plan and reasonably good benefits in general.

ConsCulture of bullying, finger-pointing and punishment, highly political environment, employees discouraged from challenging status quo, opaque review process, silo mentality and culture, us vs. them attitude with quality vs. manufacturing (quality vs. quantity), culture to "release everything" and rush everything through at all costs, focus on petty issues instead of big picture, blatant favoritism (good ole boys club type environment) exhibited within certain groups by management, weak site HR, no systems to protect and fairly evaluate strong individual contributors who are not "popular" with management, long history of regulatory compliance issues, lack of clear standards for promotions or personal development, unfair work distribution, history of unqualified or insufficiently qualified personnel and management, poor communication, no leadership training (and it shows), lack of professionalism by many site managers, no 360 reviews for management despite repeated requests by employees.

    Its a new regime

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Corona, CA

ProsHas good general benefits, active in March of Dimes charity

Consnew CEO has brought a morale that makes 'lower' level positions feel as though their contribution is not worthy of recognition. Former CEO and upper management geniuely cared for ALL employees. This new regime lost that.

    Growing pains...

Quality Manager (Current Employee) Corona, CA

ProsGreat benefits! Opportunities to form great friendships! Some high performing teams!

ConsLots of politics...it depends on who you work for whether or not you will have opportunity for growth. Being highly productive may not be enough...Communication & work life balance needs improvement.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed more strategic plans that are pushed top down. Otherwise, we waste time reinventing the wheel with lots of rework. Communication & work-life balance needs improvement.

Poor moral, long hours, little appreciation, low pay

Senior CHEMIST (Current Employee) Corona, CA

ProsTime off and benefits package are exceptional. There are opportunities to grow, but management will hold you back through inner office politics.
The Corona site is the only large pharma company in the inland empire.

ConsPay is extremely below industry standard. Even after a so-called "salary restructure" salary is still low.
Long unappreciated working hours, forced to work weekends with no compensation (not even lunch to say thank you for 6 days of work!!!!!!!)
Chemist/Scientist work until testing is completed.
    Management is 8-5 without fail.
Structure of lab is very poor, Senior Chemist/reviewers do minimal work, while ChemI/II take the grunt of the workload.
No matrix's are performed on quantity of lab workload, increase production without additional staffing.

Advice to Senior ManagementIF YOU GET 30% MORE PRODUCT, YOU NEED 30% MORE STAFF. YOU DO NOT WORK YOUR CURRENT STAFF 30% MORE WITHOUT COMPENSATION!!!!

Look at what you "experienced" & higher paid scientist are doing? Are you getting you money's worth?

Develop some matrix's for testing, workload, quantity of product.

Mr. Bisaro should stop focusing on the bottom line and focus on his people.

Great people doing great work while receiving great disrespect.

    (Current Employee) Corona, CA

    ProsA great Company...
A good work/life balance, good 401k matching, and great people.
Knowing we are making a difference in people's lives is what drives this workforce.

    ConsA great Company... on paper
Upper management will not get involved. It allows them to blame their people when things go south.
Upper management too busy looking for their next job or how to impress the people above them.
A true Manager/Director/Supervisor puts the needs of his or her people ahead of their own, not here though.
A great place to work if you are a screw up. You will get moved around and get more experience for your resume.
A bad place to work if you are a good worker. They will keep you in the same spot so they do not have to deal with the hassle of promoting you and/or finding a replacement.

Can't see Watson Corona lasting another 3 years the way the cards are playing out.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to the morale. If the economy was better, this place would be empty. Doubt there is a single satisfied employee (except where noted above about being a screw up).

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
