I have been working at Waubonsee Community College

    Pros

The college really cares about students and their success. There are many opportunities to get involved. Most of the employees are there for the same reason...the students. Most of the employees are very caring and collaborative. The Sugar Grove campus is beautiful. All campuses are kept in excellent shape by the grounds crews.

    Cons

The culture is quite formal. Nothing can be done without many levels of approval...can be stifling.

Good part-time, temporary or entry-level position

I worked at Waubonsee Community College part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The faculty and staff are awesome. The tech support is responsive and extremely helpful. Most classrooms are equipped with smart technology. The main campus is beautiful on a lake and grassland setting.

    Cons

Management is non-responsive to faculty concerns. Salary and benefits are low relative to other area community colleges. Classes are assigned and canceled with very little notice.

I worked at Waubonsee Community College part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are many amazingly nice people to work with here.

    Cons

Very, very few full-time positions. In 2012, there were 4 full time and over 80 adjuncts in the department where I worked. To boot, their policy is to not hire from within because they'd have to fill that adjunct void then.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire the people who work for you already! They know the students better than an outsider walking in the door.

I have been working at Waubonsee Community College part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The hours are decent and opportunity to work with and assist students a plus. Nice environment, pretty campus and support staff and faculty easy to work with.

    Cons

Higher ups do not pay attention to what is happening with their managers and how they treat employees. Revolving door due to employee/student verbal abuse by long-time manager in one key department overlooked and ignored. Part-time employees generally treated as second class citizens and became more apparent when the college chose to cut hours due to the Affordable Care Act.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay Attention! There are many capable, caring employees who want to do a good job but due to poor management the ability to actually offer new and innovative ideas is practically impossible.

I worked at Waubonsee Community College part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Lots of experienced Officers to learn from

    Cons

Aurora, Oswego, and Yorkville Cadets get free tuition at Waubonsee, but not Waubonse Cadets. Not allowed to do anything but sit at the front desk, and there are no opportunities to get sponsored by the department to go to police academy. Forced to work holidays at straight time due to being a student worker.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow Cadets more time patroling with Officers. Provide tuition to anyone selected into the program, and sponsor them through police academy to provide them an actual chance of getting on a department after they have gotten their degree and thrown out into the streets of testing against 400 other people for a department with 0-1 open positions.

I have been working at Waubonsee Community College

    Pros

The Campus has a few very dedicated and professional employees. Most of these are instructors or members of the support staff team.

    Cons

Without collective bargaining, employees serve without recourse under managers or executives who sometimes have a reputation for treating their people badly. The burden of working under such conditions can be stressful. Very oppressive atmosphere and politically charged environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Care a little.

Great hours at Waubonsee Community College and typicall work a Monday through Friday schedule.

    Cons

I worked at Waubonsee Community College full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Try to be competitive with salaries. The students are very diverse and interesting.

    Cons

Old school mentality. Too formal for a college environment. More interested in image and branding than the students. Some in management are very insecure and do not like new ideas or being challenged to think outside of the box. Stuck in their ways.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to adapt with the times. The focus needs to be on the students and funding should go towards the students and their needs.
