    Cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Wawa

    Pros

Most employees are pleasant to work with and the customers are usually great too. This all varies from location to location however

    Cons

Everything related to your success within Wawa will come down to what your General Manager is like. Unfortunately, my General Manager was not willing to lend a helping hand when it comes to training and leadership development. Wawa's training is video based, which is highly ineffective in my opinion. The only real way to develop your skills at Wawa is to be put in the position to do so. I was consistently promised to be trained in certain areas of stores only to be let down when they kept me on register the entire day or just gave me trash duties. Wawa needs to put a system in place to provide feedback on General Managers. My first General Manager was truly awful and dreadful to work with. I left to work at another store and worked for 3 different managers within a matter of 4 months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer your skills to help the customer service associate to develop themselves. Most managers I worked under completely lacked perspective-taking skills and did not understand or take the time to address the problems the associates were having. They seemed to be caught up only in developing themselves, and did not "VALUE PEOPLE" by living up to the core values of Wawa. I was promised almost every day I went into work that I was going to start training in a new area in the store only to be disappointed when it never happened. Wawa's weakest area is definitely in training. They have video training that is pretty useless and you never retain any of the information. There is virtually no in-store training making it extremely difficult to make yourself an asset to the organization.

I have been working at Wawa (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Highest paid in the industry and great facilities; great training!

    Cons

Nepotism, Directors need to keep a better eye on their Area Managers. They're either sleeping with their GMs or hooking up their buddies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The corporate folks have no clue what goes on in their stores outside the Philadelphia area. Start digging into your AMs and you'll get a huge surprise!

    Pros

Education reimbursement, the coffee is great.

    Cons

Be prepared to turn your work mobile phone and leave it on. Even during vacation. Management is treated like a farm animal. The employees have complaints that are real but management has to sell the "be positive" when its all nothing but negative. Wawa drains your life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Somebody step up and be a leader.

I have been working at Wawa part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good community to be a part of. Flexible scheduling, happy faces, delightful customers, all surrounded by fun and outgoing coworkers.

    Cons

Could be paid more according to what the average wawa customer service associate makes. Would like to be moved around more often in a more efficient manner. Actually be trained on a subject rather than be thrown into it blind, but its a good lesson to be taught, Improvising.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to scheduling. There are always 10+ bumps in every schedule made, making it stressful for most everyone.

    Pros

Feel ownership for the brand. Above market pay. Private company environment.

    Cons

Too much politics in the corporate office. Culture can make things personal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop over valuing mediocre performers that do not make waves.

    I worked at Wawa

    Pros

Opportunity to rise up and eventually work in corporate.
    Cool programs for students/recent grads
Cool rewards program for going above and beyond (not extraordinary but really cool small gifts like movie tickets or bigger depending on points you earn.)

    Cons

Work environment depends on who you work with (other CSA's). Sometimes did not like working with some of the other CSA's at the store I worked at.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure to show up more than when doing inspections.
Also talk to in store management about making sure all employees are cross trained and not stuck in one specific section of the store.
