  1.

Not a bad place to start.

    I worked at WayForward Technologies

    Pros

Easy-going atmosphere and friendly superiors. Some experienced persons on the teams. Little to no overtime required in my experience, but seemed much more likely for the programming side. A good amount of complimentary amenities.

    Cons

They did not offer any matching for 401k. Had to fix a lot of outsourced work that could have been made in-house in the same time. Poor communication between programming and art.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management was friendly but lower staff seemed distant to each other -- maybe include them in some meetings or events. Need to use more discretion when choosing freelance artists.

It's a low end game company stuck in old ways.

    Pros

9-5, but it's because they don't want to pay overtime.
Decent snacks to help you forget that you don't get paid much.

    Cons

No room to grow your career.
Company poorly run from a management perspective.
    Wrong people in leadership positions.
Very low pay, even for video game development.
Underbids for projects and then can't deliver.
Artists, though the most skilled body as a whole, get treated terribly.

I worked at WayForward Technologies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of talented people here. Always something new to work on and plenty of opportunity to learn something new and grow your skills. Such a fun place to work as well. Great attitude and time for fun with plenty of good hard work being done.

    Cons

Any 3rd party developer is subject to having to gain contracts with publishers which can be difficult at times. Luckily WayForward has a great history and some good relationships.

    I worked at WayForward Technologies

    Pros

WayForward is a great way to get your foot in the door of the game industry. Some of the best employees have used it as a stepping stone to larger studios. It's a good first job for college graduates, who will find willing mentors in their area of expertise. There's a lot of outstanding talent among the employees. It's also a family friendly environment, and work hours are flexible rather than fixed. The management is understanding of committments outside of work. Overall, the teams work well together and anyone will find friends among the coworkers. Anyone who is passionate about games, talented, and ambitious will find opportunities for career growth.

    Cons

WayForward offers poor benefits and salary for its location in Southern California. Many of the employees are fresh out of college, and the rest have very little game development experience prior to WayForward. One of the biggest problems is that good work often goes unrewarded. The management rarely (if ever) offers promotions or salary raises. The company lacks an internal structure to clarify each person's role and what they're entitled to. As a result, the employees who complain loudly tend to get more money/benefits out of the company and stay around longer, while employees who would rather get their work done than complain will wonder why their salary hasn't changed in 3 years, or why they've never been offered anything that resembles a promotion. These quieter employees are often talented, but they slowly get disgruntled, get fed up, and then leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer salary raises or title promotions to your best employees every once in a while. In the long run, people who believe their work matters will work harder.

    Mistakes are not punished.
