Politics interfere with ability to do adequate work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Detroit, MI

ProsGood health benefits and retirement benefits for current employees.
Generous time off, due in part to mandatory furloughs.
    Excellent union representation for administrators.

ConsUpper management out of touch with day-to-day operations.
Too much focus put on making county executive look good for re-election.
Not enough money put into programs that actually do community good.
Less generous retirement and retiree health care prospects for new hires.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on doing a good job instead of looking good. The results of productive year-long operations will do more to make you look good than expensive annual events that provide little in the way of long-term benefits.
