  10. SOM Graduate Stipend Shell Game

Current Employee - Graduate Research Assistant in Detroit, MI
Current Employee - Graduate Research Assistant in Detroit, MI

I have been working at Wayne State (More than 3 years)

    Pros

With hard work, you can earn a degree at Wayne State. If staying within the metro detroit area it is one the accredited university you can attend.

    Cons

Wayne State Associate Dean of Graduate Programs recently announced higher stipend support for School of Medicine graduate students. However, support is not increasing because the overall length of stipend is decreasing. It is a financial maneuver meant to convey increased support. If going into the sciences/research it is better to choose another regional university over Wayne State.

    Pros

Research intensive, good courses, good on-campus accommodation, dedicated faculty, location advantage, flexible, evening classes really convenient, great scope for self improvement

    Cons

A bit expensive, no scholarships awarded at all, campus can be improved, Some TAs are not good, sport activities can be improved.

    Advice to Management

Should introduce more online courses, courses should be made available on request, Some classes have very limited seats & get filled up fast, should have more study abroad programs.
