Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
Nice people. Flexible work hours.
Cons
Seem to have to "work your way up" even if you have a ton of other experience.
Advice to Senior Management
When someone is very overqualified see if you can put them in a management position without having to work you way up!
Pros
Flexible schedule, encouraging environment, managers are respectful, ability to grow within the company, benefits working part time, has a family feel, great training
Cons
You have to work most weekends, it is difficult to take off time around the holidays especially for full time employees
Pros
Bi-annual hourly raises for part-time employees
Scholarship program for employees furthering their education
Always opportunities for advancement
Friendly environment
Cons
Front End jobs are slightly monotonous (as to be expected with any introductory grocery store position)
Advice to Senior Management
More low-level employee feedback on how their managers are doing
Pros
The best reasons to work at Wegmans are its flexible hours that allow time off and shift changes easily when necessary. It is a great first job for young students in high school with a great scholarship program that you may receive throughout school, including applying again for graduate school and beyond.
Cons
If you have other priorities, like another job or school, then you will not be able to work in the most satisfying positions or move much in the company. The pay is lower than jobs that require greater expertise, but for its industry it is one of, if not, the best. Work may become repetitive if you are in a position that requires few innovations or decisions, but they do allow suggestions for improvement from all employees regardless of position.
Advice to Senior Management
The leadership at Wegmans has been doing a great job, but there needs to be more reviewing of some store managers. At some stores, I have had excellent managers who work hard, connect with their employees, and innovate. At others, the opposite was true. We need more of the prior.
Pros
Best reasons to work at Wegmans are many. Wegmans provides oppotunities to developed your skills at what ever job your doing. Wegmans leadership is very caring about your growth, health and well being. Wegmans displays very good flexebilities in working around your personal life. In addition Wegmans is a very well lead company.
Cons
The downsides are far and few in between. The scheduling can be some what erratic and inconsistent. Sometimes Wegmans can be a little too soft on workers who underperform, such as coming late to work or not following through on itemize task performance.
Advice to Senior Management
Wegmans needs to be more stricter with underperforming workers. The leadrship needs to make sure that all the workers, especially the young ones, are following through on the itemized task requirements all the time.
Pros
Managers know you and respect you.
If you have any medical problems they are 100% understanding
Your coworkers in many cases become your good friends.
Pay is great especially if you stay with a company, pay raises two times a year! Also they are very understanding with time off requests or sick days. I was part time and getting nearly 60 hours a year for vacation!
Cons
Heavy lifting if you are working as a stocker. If you are terrible with people this really isn't a job for you since they want you to interact with customers. A lot of relationships inside the store.
Advice to Senior Management
Managers are really understanding and want there employees succeed which is why I always stuck around Wegmans. Also appreciate the fact that managers actually let me act as a manager in many cases to see how it would feel.
Pros
Great people, workplace, and they are very flexible when it comes to scheduling. They keep my job for me while im at college.
Cons
I wish they would teach more to the part timers.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work.
Pros
-Great Management- management is very supportive, and helps keep work fun
-Good Training- most policies are well spelled out and easy to comply with
-Challenging at Times- sometimes your head spins when it is busy
-Friendly Co-Workers- willing to help when you need it
-Yearly Reviews are Very Specific and Include Helpful Criticism and Good Praise
Cons
-Pay is Low Compared to Amount of Wegmans Profits, ...and Lots of Work Is Expected For Minimal Pay
-Some Changes are Difficult to Keep Up With... You are Given a Whole new way to do your job in a day
-Minimal Benefits- you have to shell out your money to get a minimal package
-"Customer is Always Right!"....enough said.
Advice to Senior Management
'Simplification' didn't work in the food departments. Employees may become more motivated by profit sharing and wages that are maybe a dollar or two higher.
