    satisfactory

Research Technician II (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsGreat location and facilities with great collaborative environment in science. Also good collaborations between the tri-institutions of Rockefeller MSKCC and New York Pres. There is also a ton of options for lunch!

ConsPay could be higher but its whats expected when working in academia within a lab setting where grant money is limited.

Roll of the Dice, depending on your department/division, particular lab

Data (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsSome labs and departments are a great, laid back environment. Minimal dress code for some, overall friendly, diverse coworkers. Offsite buildings are quiet environments, less stress than main campus. Somewhat inexpensive cafe and hospital cafeteria for those on the main campus. Brand new research building is top notch.

ConsCertain PI's or supervisors are extreme personalities, many managers and supervisors are brought on by PI's who they are friendly with etc., but they lack the practical and technical knowledge to do their job. Many ineffective communicators as well as poor communication bw department heads and staff. Some groups have tensions between staff that is ongoing--poor mediation and management of weak links. No transparency with regards to compensation, and bonuses only exist for favored Managers and supervisors.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep track of supervisor competency and conduct better.

ProsGreat benefits, competitive pay. If you end up in a good department you might meet some pretty incredible people.

ConsNo clear paths to achieving promotions, a lot of it is who you know - and forget trying to keep your integrity in tact.

ProsThey have good starting pay and benefits.

ConsThere can be a lot of red tape and bureaucracy. A lot of the work is thankless and you work with many departments and Principal Investigators that are rude.
