Good working condition with good pay

    Research Assistant (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsThe lab is very equipped with machines and supplies. The hours were not 8am-6pm with lunch break. The people are helpful. The pay is decent too.

ConsToo many people at the cafeteria during lunch hours. It could get a bit too cold with the AC sometimes in the lab.

Very Enjoyable, Rewarding and Independent Environment

    Registered Dietitian (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsI like working here because you are treated very well. If they hire you for a position they trust you and allow you to excel at your career.

ConsI really love my clinical work however as in any clinical setting there are some co-workers that are tougher to work with than others.

Advice to Senior ManagementAutomatic cost of living increases each year.

I went to graduate school at Weill Cornell. It's a great place to be and it's in NYC.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsA lot opportunity within the Tri-I area. You have a lot to explore in the new york city.

ConsThe layout the of labs are not ideal to foster interactions even through the college or department are trying hard to reverse the trend.

Advice to Senior ManagementI hope there would be more career development assistant for graduate students.

NYP/Weill Cornell Lower Manhattan ( Formely New York Downtown)

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsThe Benefits are great and the Reputation.

ConsNYP/Weill Cornell Lower Manhattan, 156 Williams Street 7th floor (Formerly New York Downtown) The department of medicine is dysfunctional, mangers do not know how to manage their staff, some of their staff are from New York Downtown, and they are rude and uneducated. The department of medicine hires uneducated temps, and the uneducated temps starts gossip and trouble among the new employees, why? Because the temps want the new employees jobs. It seems as though management likes the gossip too. It is suppose to be about the patients and not this cutthroat I want your job kind of thing. Next to this department is OB/GYN and their management team seems to know how to run their staff and new employees. It all depends on who you work with, and which department. Weill Cornell should have gotten rid of all New York Downtown bad seeds. The Department of Medicine is unorganized!!! The management sucks, supervisors do not want to deal with hostile patients, supervisors do not know what they are doing. Wait, but get this, The Department of Medicine staff are Patient Coordinators, and GYN staff are Senior Patient Coordinators(both have same years of experience & degrees). Medicine staff does more work than GYN, and get paid less. Basically, it is the same job function, but in this case The Department of Medicine’s Patient Coordinators are doing a lot more work at 156 Williams Street (Cheap Bastards). Whatever you do, do not work at 156 Williams Street, Department of Medicine. Weill Cornell itself is a good company work for, but not 156 Williams Street (formerly New York Downtown)

    Advice to Senior ManagementHave meetings

    Seek advice from OB/GYN

    Get organized

Stop listening to gossip and lies from staff

    Loads of busy work

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat reputation of the institution. Worked with some great people. The training sessions were always great and the facilities were nice.

ConsToo much micro management in the office. Made small errors into thing that could jeapordize your livelihood. Also there is little room for advancement.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop micro managing staff

    – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Good faculty and resources, good science, poor administration

    PhD Student (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

    Pros-Really dedicated faculty!
-Many top-notch labs to work in
-Great location, near MSKCC and Rockefeller
-Opportunity to go to many fantastic talks and lectures.
-Student clinic (SHS) is quite good; health insurance is adequate
-Students are eligible for subsidized housing nearby
    -Publication and collaboration are encouraged
    -Interesting courses
    -Great extracurricular clubs and activities
    -Good stipend

    Cons-No childcare
-Grad school administration can be difficult and unprofessional to work with
-There seems to be nowhere to turn if you have problems with housing, your PI, or professional/ethical concerns
-The reimbursement procedure for conferences, work-related expenses, etc., can take 6 months-1 year
-The institution in general is bogged down with layers of departments and administrators; it is never clear who to go to with what question. A simple request for a form can take days to figure out!
-Postdocs are underpaid and under-served at Weill-Cornell

Advice to Senior Management1. Students, postdocs, and faculty should have the opportunity to evaluate administrative staff annually and anonymously. I'm not sure what evaluation procedures are currently in place, but they are not working, and there is no opportunity to give negative or positive feedback regarding administrative staff or procedures. There are some amazing administrators here who are never recognized even though the staff/faculty/students they serve appreciate them enormously-- but we're powerless in terms of their professional advancement.

    2. Childcare/FMLA needs must be addressed ASAP for postdocs and students.
