I worked at Weir Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Company has good wages and benefits. There are a wide variety of jobs in the "system".

    Cons

workload is mostly with non-salaried employees. Process to effect changes is cumbersome. Every aspect of the business in driven by the "company process" and customer/vendor considerations are secondary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate managers need to spend more time listening to the hourly employees. Local managers quash a lot of concerns, ideas and suggestions that should be heard by the managers at headquarters.

I worked at Weir Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The facility was newer and had decent amenities.

    Cons

A revolving door of upper management. With the constant change in management initiatives never get completed. Too many "fly by night" managers flown in from all over the country and the world.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The corporate bunch in Scotland need to get their act together or I don't see much future for any division other than oil and gas.

I worked at Weir Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

decent pay and in a good city. Company published values are good one's but are not lived up to, not even close.

    Cons

Run completely by finance. No long term initiatives, necessary investments to take care of business and customers are constantly deferred. Constant leadership turnover creates a revolving door of projects and initiatives that never get completed.

Company only grows through acquisition, organic growth is non existent and continues to shrink.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Commit to improvement and stick with it regardless of quarterly results. Put the customer first and value employees.

    Pros

Lot of smart and helpful engineers on staff. Good environment. In house manufacturing.

    Cons

    Nuclear regulations slow everything down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to streamline work flow, avoid bottle necks.

  9.

I worked at Weir Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay and bens, great people.

    Cons

Not much opportunity for success. Difficult environment to be effective due to years of bad leadership resulting in archaic business systems and beaten down employees. Inter company politics are a never ending distraction keeping individuals and teams constantly changing directions creating a situation of a lot of effort and little return.

Company is consumed with financials to the point where it compromises customers and long term success of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care about people, align your efforts, get a grasp on the politics, put some focus on vastly improving the business systems, and truly be customer focused.

I have been working at Weir Group full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

No one cares what you do until they are ready to fire you

    Cons

Too many to list. Incompetent junior and senior management, lack of training and career development opportunities, compensation is in the bottom 10%, old machines and equipment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They don't care, so why should I!

Current Employee - Project Engineer in Madison, WI

I have been working at Weir Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, good healthcare and retirement plans. People you work with are good people, just may not be very effective job-wise.

    Cons

Overworked, no appreciation, very little communication about what is going on until something is being implemented already.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Watch managers and supervisors more closely. Just because a department is effective, it doesn't mean the manager/supervisor is a good leader. Confidentially ask employees what their opinions are or just wait for the exit interviews.
