I have been working at Weis Markets full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Not a very hard job. Mostly common sense needed.

    Cons

Labor is stretched too thin, pay is not competitive, and buildings are too old and run down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to realize they want $14/hr work out of $7/hr associates, part timers are paid minimum wage and the expectations of them are too high. You get what you pay for.

I worked at Weis Markets part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The atmosphere is excellent. The store managers are open to suggestions. The training of employees has merit. The company is family friendly and oriented.

    Cons

The training process of new employees needs to be reviewed for both the lenghth of time and the indiviuals who do the training. Training should be done by managers or manager assistants.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management should be more open to suggestions from the rank and file rather than from only the regional managers or higher levels. Input from the employee who is actually doing the work should have more value.

I worked at Weis Markets part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Clean store, nice customers, ten percent employee discount on Weis brand items

    Cons

Extremely low pay ($8.25 per hour in Produce department) [I was earning $8.90 per hour in retail (Sam's Club cashier associate) in 2004!!!], very limited hours for part time (<23 hours per week), managers complain about the most minute errors or don't even tell you what you are doing wrong.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay a fair wage for your hourly workers! Train your managers to assist new employees and give proper training so that new employees stay around for more than two weeks! Also offer the ten percent employee discount for all items inside the store, not just Weis brand products as A&P does.

    Pros

This was really not a bad job to have, but not a great one... food discounts, paid time off after 6 months.

    Cons

just a boring job outside of school, but as with everything, you try to focus on the positives

I worked at Weis Markets part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The "associates" I have come to know are now considered more like family than friends. Easy to get along, everyone respects everyone. Customers get the upmost respect and friendliest service.

    Cons

No benefits for the people who work hard. It really all about seniority, which in some cases is not a fair way to advance. Certain staff are definitely "clicky" meaning favoritism runs this company...not good!!

    Pros

Many of you coworkers will be great people, but the management is poor.

    Cons

Don't expect to know your scheduled for the coming week until the Wednesday before hand. Managers don't care about how things will effect the employees or customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the employees they are the ones who really run the business.

I have been working at Weis Markets part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It differs from store to store, but at least at mine the people are friendly and very nice. Asking for time off generally isn't a hassle, if we have the help for the time requested off.

    Cons

Low pay and senior management really doesn't seem to attempt to retain anyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at your employees and see if there are people you're overlooking that want to advance in the company.

I have been working at Weis Markets

    Pros

Flexible schedule. Willing to hire high school students or those with little experience.

    Cons

Managers do not discipline employees, good workers quit causing an extremely high turnover. Little chance for advancement past the store level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the constant cutting of hours causing a struggle just to serve the customers. Spend more time finding competent employees and be willing to invest more (training and pay) in them.
