Advice to Senior Management
Management needs more transparency
Pros
They have a great benefits package.
Cons
You are just a number to WellPoint.
Advice to Senior Management
I will not waste my time giving advice to those that do not listen.
Pros
The pay compensation was comparable to other companies. The company often tries to address employees concerns in a timely manner and most managers work extremely hard not to micro-managed their employees
Cons
There was not many opportunities for growth in the company. At times, the company senior management appeared disorganized. Receiving a promotion was hard to get because of all the cost-cutting.
Advice to Senior Management
Your employees are the backbone of your company; therefore, work harder on listening to their concerns instead of focusing heavily on what the company stockholders want.
Pros
ok company to work for
Cons
they work on the buddy system,if your not a buddy or don't kiss up you cant get promoted
Advice to Senior Management
stand up for your employees
Pros
Flexibility to work from home, company focus on wellness for employee/family, paid holidays and having Black Friday off.
Cons
Inexperienced team leaders, upper management not in touch with what front-line employees are doing
Advice to Senior Management
Ensure that your leadership is qualified to work in the area they are leading; listen to your case managers. Better communication with team is necessary to have a team that works together and respects you.
Pros
It's a job in a bad economic environment. 401k is good for those of us who have been here a few years.
Cons
Our customers have much better insurance coverage choices that the employees -- this is a BCBS company represented in 14 states. Bottom line reigns -- even when it means laying off a group of employees to send their jobs overseas.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep your promises to your employees -- they are your greatest asset. also have more equitable distribution of salaries.
Pros
flexibilty, and work from home
Cons
job security, poor upper management.
Advice to Senior Management
make sure you have good manager that will look out for you
Pros
18 days Personal Time Off. Good health insurance benefits. Work from home if you are in the right department (forget it if you are in Senior Business Compliance).
Cons
The Compliance department is the worst department I have ever had the displeasure to work in. Everything is considered an emergency. When you get an assignment, expect no fewer than 5 people to Instant Message or E-Mail you asking when you will have a response back to them. Expect to have to cancel vacations if leadership deems something an "emergency" (this happened 5-6 times in the time I worked there). Leadership doesn't understand anything about compliance - they are in their jobs because they have been with the company 10+ years (sometimes in completely different roles). They expect you to be onsite for 9-10 hours and 'accessible' for the rest of the day - so basically you are expected to be on-call for 16 hours/day. If you leave your desk for longer than 15 minutes, leadership will hunt you down and wonder where you were. Communication is non-existent - everybody uses Microsoft Communicator to communicate (instant messaging). Phone calls are not used at all. Leadership uses Microsoft Communicator to monitor their employees - when they are online, when they are busy....etc. Expect a meeting to be called for every single little issue, even if it has been resolved one-on-one with someone else. If you let it happen, you could be in meetings 7-8 hours each day.
Compliance leadership has no backbone in terms of standing up for their employees - if a business area dumps 25 Manuals on you for next day review, you are expected to get it done by the next day. Leadership does not support employees at all. When you have 50% staff turnover each year, you know this is not where you want to be.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop hiring very qualified people to do clerical work.
Pros
location is one of the many reasons I really like to work at this company, right by marta station
Benefits
communication
Cons
parking can be difficult, especially in buckhead.
traffic surrounding the building is horrible at christmastime and ask your manager to help you plan accordingly
Pros
I worked for a subsidary of Wellpoint, which I believe is now defunct - HMC. HMC was a great place to work; felt like a small start up within a bigger institution. Unfortuntately, it fell on top of itself and folded after a brief stint.
Cons
Easy to get lost in the shuffle, no real growth opportunities for a proposal writer - as with most places. I think that the career path for a proposal writer was more to blame than the company, though.
