Pros
The company has been in business for a very long time and many people have retired from WellPoint. There are medical and 401k benefits so there is the opportunity to retire with a source of income other than Social Security.
Cons
We have been on years of mandatory overtime with no relief in sight. It would be nice if our hourly pay scale was comparable to other competitive insurance companies. There are thousands of working moms that could benefit from Day Care. A company of this size should offer such a service.
Advice to Senior Management
If the people in authority would forego some of there million plus bonuses, the money could be use to offer more competitve salaries and it would attract higher quality associates.
Pros
Good and Stable company with ok benefits. Try to complete higher education. Dedicated line to help with your health insurance needs.
Cons
Depends on your supervisor and department - it si sometimes quite good but at the same time some departments are horrible.

Respect Employees and understand that they are important. Hire right people in the right place and some supervisors need HR training.

I have learned a great deal. I enjoy the freedom to develop solutions from end to end, rather than depending on others to be involved.

I work approximately 60 hours per week and never seem to be caught up. Working from home is also a disadvantage... as I am always working.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire a stronger team. This will allow your strong developers to work 8-10 hour days, 5 days per week. Unfortunately the good developers are currently working 60+ hours per week.

lack of trust among associates and departments, lack of cooperation too. even small changes take an act of congress and 3 different committees holding week long workshop discussion groups

work toward breaking down the barriers and walls that keep intersecting departments siloed from each other.

Frequent reorganizations; outsourcing especially customer service and IT to other countries

Business model will be impacted possibly negatively by the healthcare reform
