ProsGood work life balance, benefits and flexibility. Overall a good place to work with good people who care. Potential for growth if you so desire

ConsStagnant environment. Resistant to change at times. Compensation lower than comparable institutions and management slow at times to react to we'd for improvement.. Communication across the campus could be improved and silo like environment was hard to overcome at times.

    Great Potential, Bad Management

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat people at Wentworth who really care about their students. Great mission. Many wonderful people to work with.

    ConsUpper management has big problems.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere's a brutality in the upper management that is surprising given the stated goals of the of the institution and the efforts of the president.

    Bureaucratic and stagnant"

    Co-op Advisor (Former Employee)

ProsThe college has a wonderful mission: help support the students who will one day design and build cities.

ConsLack of personnel performance stems largely from the Institute's highly demoralizing code of silence: underperform and keep your mouth shut. So many administrators are just phoning it in, and the managers are at fault for keeping them on. Turnover in my department was high because staff are underpaid and new ideas are met with cynicism and flagrant negativity. If you have a shred of creativity or innovation in your blood...this place looks good on paper with some of the new initiatives but try bringing forth one of your own and everyone wigs out.

Advice to Senior ManagementFire the under-performers! They are slugs eating up your bandwidth and keeping great candidates away from the organization.

ConsFor many positions there aren't many ways to go up.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe new hires have been fantastic--keep it up!

Wonderful people and a great place to learn.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Boston, MA

ProsThe people in my division were really great and allowed me to really break out of my role to volunteer with other things. Everyone was very supportive of professional development and continuing education.

ConsSalary and benefits weren't stellar. I believe after I left they became even more strict about eligibility. There's not much room for promotion either as people tend to stay for a very long time.

Wentworth lacks communication across campus and down through the ranks, creating a dysfunctional work environment

    Director (Current Employee) Boston, MA

    ProsEnjoyable/smart colleagues
    Easy access to the city
    On the T
    On campus parking available
    Generous holiday time off
    Active in Boston community
Consortium of area Colleges to interact with
Students are very down to earth

    ConsDepartments operate in silos
Some senior management are not skilled in their positions
    Communication is lacking and slow
Goals and objectives are not done or clear
Work/life balance, in some areas, not respected
    Information sharing is difficult
Lack of understanding in building long term relationships
High turnover in some departments making project execution difficult

Advice to Senior ManagementTake an internal look at each department and remove the weak link, starting with senior management first. Changes can't be made when the same teams are taken apart and management stays the same. Evaluate salaries, they are too low amongst peer schools (neighboring schools) and benefits. Long term relationships should extend to students, alumni and parents - these are lacking and bringing down the brand nationwide. Take action!
