    Tedious

    Customer Care Associate (Former Employee)
    Omaha, NE

ProsThe people are great. Helpful and fun. Great first time job or someone looking for part time work.

ConsEverything is so rigid and new and different approaches to problems aren't rewarded or even wanted. often reprimanded for not following the scripts to a T. Management was very self centered, and numbers orientated not really worried about being the most helpful to the customer.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere's an opportunity to be rave worthy customer care representatives but the scripts should be guidelines and not mandatory. Customers want quick prompt service, not a forced script from a human being. They can get that from a computer prompt.

    Decent

    Enterprise Risk Analyst (Former Employee)
    Omaha, NE

ProsGood work-life balance and opportunities for advancement; benefits are satisfactory. Recent changes in upper management, since moving back to a publicly traded company, have helped the company move forward and become profitable.

ConsTraining can be hard to come by, depending upon the department you work in.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer affordable (or free) training opportunities, to keep employee turnover under control.

ConsManagement does not do anything about Supervisors mistreating agents
Medical benefits are not that good (but at least they are offered) Dental and Vision is good.
Supervisors have favorites whom get promoted over better candidates

    A hire and fire factory

    Customer Service Representative (Former Employee)
    Omaha, NE

ProsThey paid their employees on a regular basis.

ConsManagers are incompetent and the indicators the company used to measure customer satisfaction had high reliability and almost no validity (I'm a trained Sociologist - I know). You don't measure customer satisfaction by how fast a call center person can get the caller off the line and on to the next caller. That breeds fast transfer times on the "hard calls" and irate callers who have difficult issues to resolve.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you want customer satisfaction, you measure it properly. You might want to listen to a TRAINED employee with a background in creating indicators that properly measure what they are supposed to measure rather than letting that person go and continuing your charade. By the way, the company that I answered calls for at West no longer exists - I'm still working (elsewhere, of course).

    Good Company, Depending on Department

    Project Manager (Current Employee)
    Omaha, NE

ProsWhat's really keeping me here is the 401k match which is awesome and unlike any I've seen during my long career. Depending on the department, work life balance is excellent with opportunity to work from home as needed. They are using more recent technologies in various areas and always looking to improve processes. For some of the more technical jobs, there has been some turnover as the pay at West for some of these positions is below market.

ConsInternal organization consolidations as of late have been disruptive. With any consolidation, there is always concern of job loss. There was a freeze on pay raises for a couple of years prior to 2013. Not sure if there will be any raises in 2014.

Advice to Senior ManagementFor whatever area you are managing, it helps to be knowledgeable in the subject manner for which you are managing. For example, if you are the head of a PMO, you should be well versed in project management methodologies and techniques.
