I have been working at West Tennessee Healthcare full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Largest employer of Madison County. You have options to try new areas as a nurse if you are unhappy where you are at. We have some great nurses who truly care but are overworked due to short stafff. Job security as a nurse. Finally got a raise this year! ! New nurses can obtain alot of experience.

    Cons

They have taken away alot of benefits and insurance cost went up also. Administration is all about t Always working short staff. Very clicky place. If they don’t like you...you will not have an easy time. Favoritism is obvious. The difficult patients that verbally abuse you! I don't think the public understands how badly nurses are treated by patients and families...but that's all hospitals unfortunately. When I leave I will not be coming back. Oh and do not burn bridges with WTH as a nurse because you will be black balled in West Tennessee

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think it would help if some of of the the upper management would come thru the departments more than once a year even just to say hello. I wouldn't know Bobby Arnold if I saw him. Employees need raises ever year! The cost of living goes up every year and if you don't offer raises there is no incentive to do better.

Low transparency within department and within WTH as a whole

I worked at West Tennessee Healthcare full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary and benefits were in line with most regional companies. The company did have a pension plan for employees hired before ~2010. PTO was generous while I was working there and increased every 7-8 years.

    Cons

Raises were not always given due to company performance and the 403B match was also taken away for several years then reintroduced at a lower rate. The pension plan was taken away around 2010-2011 for new hires. The PTO has recently reduced by half for all employees due to WTH's increased dept. Promotions in my department were usually based upon personal rather than profession relationships. Favoritism and nepotism were significant issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increasing training opportunities for employees. Promote more professionalism with live group training instead of individual outdated online tests and videos. Upper management should be held more accountable for their actions. There should be more transparency throughout the entire company.

    Pros

Paid the bills and kept us fed

    Cons

I'm not a new employee there, RN with 8 years experience. Felt like it was a clique, awful workplace gossip. Director and manager harassed me.

I have been working at West Tennessee Healthcare

    Pros

Time off is good and some flexibility.

    Cons

Too much "red tape" and whispering. Not a transparent company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the culture and reduce the levels in management. Include ongoing paid training for staff and require office skills tests for people applying for clerical positions. A typing test is not enough.

I have been working at West Tennessee Healthcare

    Pros

Great people to work with! The staff care about patients and their family, everyone works well as a team. The "drama" is not too bad for such a large hospital.

    Cons

We are not allowed overtime, so we feel short staffed sometimes.
