Great place to work as an RN

Registered Nurse (Current Employee) Morgantown, WV

ProsThere is so much to learn at WVUH, and many departments to choose from. For the most part the environment is friendly, and people seem to enjoy what they are doing. Schedules are flexible. It relatively easy to change departments when you are ready for something new in your career. There are lots of opportunities for professional growth. Pay in average.

Consbenefit package is average, its a huge organization so to upper management you are really just a face in the crowd- however, the individual nursing units have their own culture that gives you a sense of belonging. its a teaching facility, so you deal with several "teams" of doctors and interns- at times there is a lack of communication between the doctors and nursing staff, which makes patient care complicated.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Worst job I have ever had.

Allied Health (Former Employee) Martinsburg, WV

ProsNone at all. Worst place to work in the tri-state area.

ConsNo pay increases. Lots of workplace bullying that organization turns a blind eye towards. Dangerous RN to patient ratios, Constant reminders of budget constraints when it comes to employee raises while building multi-million dollar ad campaigns and grounds improvements. Cost-of-living increase below market average. RN's commonly verbally assault technicians and allied health. No teamwork. Doubled job responsibilities but did not increase wages. No lunch breaks. Ineffective leadership and management. Upper management is royalty. Physicians do not stay. Stress levels are bad to horrendous. Lots of chiefs, no Indians.

Advice to Senior ManagementLead or leave.

    Nurse Extern Program MICU SICU

Nurse Extern MICU/SICU (Former Employee) Morgantown, WV

Prosable to participate during advanced procedures and learned a wide variety of new skills.

ConsHad many different preceptors due to low census

Advice to Senior Managementconsistency with preceptors will facilitate a better learning environment

Do yourself a favor and leave

STaff Registered Nurse (Former Employee) Morgantown, WV

ProsGood benefits and supportive ancillary staff

ConsRampant horizontal violence, senior nurses take advantage of the newer ones, management turns an eye from bad behavior, consistently short staffed

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you put more energy into supporting new staff in their roles the turnover would be less apt to occur.

    Great place to work

Project Manager (Current Employee) Morgantown, WV

ProsStuder has been contracted. Everything is changing for the better

ConsNot able to telecommute as much as I would like. As a project manager, other than meetings I could perform my job at home.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter peer to peer communication would be nice.

    Learning experince and gained knowledge

Supervisor/Medical Technologist (Current Employee) Martinsburg, WV

ProsBenefits have always been fair and enjoyed most people I worked with in all departments

ConsCommunication is not always a strong suit by all. To much resistance by some to help promote change.

Advice to Senior ManagementPractice more of what is preached and do not get envolved in departmental issues that beed to be handled with in the departments but get involved when the departmental mangers are not doing their job.

Corrupt bunch of leaders in Martinsburg at WVUH-East, only interested in furthering their careers.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Martinsburg, WV

ProsThe staff they manage to bring on may begood at their jobs. Too bad they are beaten down over time and cease to care about their jobs or their patients.

ConsThere is very little to recommend WVUH-East. Both in Martinsburg and in Ranson. The leadership is a joke. Its not about what you know, it's who you know. You are asked to provide your best, which many do, with little in return. No pay raise, no performance raise. No one in a position of management or leadership can really be called a leader, despite the fact they've taken "classes" to "learn" to be good managers.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop thinking about your own career goals and start doing what right for the organization. Infighting will get you no where fast. Better yet, resign and let them put someone better in your place.

    Get the experience, then leave.

    N/A (Current Employee) Martinsburg, WV

ProsGood for an entry-level position if someone has no hospital experience. Good for someone just out of school or attending school. Does have a tuition reimbursement plan.

ConsBelow fair-market pay when compared with area hospitals. Ongoing staffing issues. Working very short staffed. Health Insurance is cheap but bit of a bait and switch insurance provider. (InforMed)

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend some time somewhere other than your office. Address the needs of patients as well as staff.

The IT department does not provide the appropriate training or compensation for what the job duties and time entail

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsBenefits are better than most...Hard to get fired, but for an individual that is hard working and determined to do their job, this is really a con as this makes others do the bare minimum

ConsThe pay is MUCH less than what you would expect for the given position. Especially considering the cost of living in Morgantown, WV. Management is poor, the amount work and projects in such a short period of time with no training makes for a very stressful environment.
