I have been working at WestCare (Less than a year)

    Pros

Making a difference in the lives of women is very important to me. These women are trying to rebuild their lives, and become productive members of society. The staff really care about their clients.

    Cons

Sometimes it is sad to hear what the women have been through.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. The only advise I would give is to put more energy into re-entry.

    Pros

Teamwork and approachability of staff and management

    Cons

    Advice to Management

I worked at WestCare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good program. Counselors were great.

    Cons

Coworkers were very unprofessional. A lot of gossiping about each other, slamming of office doors, and no unity. When brought to management, it wasn't an important issue to deal with. HR Rep was of no help. When Director and supervisor were out of town, office staff ran amok and singled out new employees. A lot of power trips.

    Advice to Management

Weed out the bad seeds. Create a professional environment. Enforce strict rules against employees slandering each other, which creates a toxic environment.

I have been working at WestCare (More than a year)

    Pros

Learn new skills, work directly with clients, most people who work there truly care about their clients, flexible work schedule, locations all over the US, get to meet some amazing people, truly make a difference in people's lives. Quite a few of the Senior Management are fabulous people and will do their best to support you.

    Cons

No raises; training is sub-par (need training for all staff, not just for a few Counselors); salaries are way below average; never enough staff to cover all the jobs - so many are doing 2-3 jobs at once; either not given the tools necessary to complete job or it takes months of asking to get it, outdated technology; constant turn over rate means lack of stability, burn out rate very high.

    Advice to Management

Market the company, do Outreach, get WestCare's name out there to bring more donations and funding in. Hire a marketing team instead of leaving it up to already overworked staff who only have very basic marketing skills. Just because this is a Non-Profit does not mean that the company needs to hide in the shadows. WestCare does tremendous work and the public should know about it.

I worked at WestCare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Continued training, management listens, supervision hours, excellent co-workers, friendly comfortable atmosphere, hard work gets noticed, helpful staff members, room for advancement.

    Cons

Weak benefits if you include a spouse, work/life balance gets tested, pay could always be better, some political rumblings from clinical staff.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at better benefits, if you up the pay scale to meet the grant people might stay.

I have been working at WestCare (More than a year)

    Pros

    A few dedicated, talented counselors.

    Cons

Poor benefits. Upper management is extremely unprofessional and accept no accountability for how poorly the program is run. Make you work hard, not smart. Directives make no sense. Idea are not welcomed. Never address low employee morale and high turn over. No support. Lots of favoritism. Upward mobility is based on who you know and not skill, ability and knowledge.

    Advice to Management

Take the cotton out of your ears and put it in your mouth. Listen to your staff!
