I worked at Westchester Medical Center full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

WMC provided ample opportunities for professional growth. They offered tuition for employees wanting to further their education within their related field. The salaries were competitive and the benefits were excellent. The hospital is located in a lovely area of Westchester which offered ample space for exercise. The staff was dedicated to patient care regardless of what their position was.

    Cons

Outsourcing is a large problem at WMC. The union is slowly being disbanded as more and more positions are being filled by outside agencies .While the union is fighting to keep the jobs of its 500 members alive, the eventuality is that with each new contract more union positions will be transferred to agency positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The staff works very hard to service patients to the best of our ability. There should be more recognition to those individuals hospital wide who have provided exemplary care.

I worked at Westchester Medical Center full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great people to work with and there are those who really care about the patients and healthcare overall.

    Cons

Upper administration has no real interest in making positive change or efficient progress in the work that needs to be done. They are hung up on their egos and who not to speak to because they are not a "Director" or "Vice President", even when it holds up the process. Also, those who work with staffing agencies are mistreated since they are not considered a "real employee" of WMC. Very petty....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on what is needed to get the job done!!!

I worked at Westchester Medical Center full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Self scheduling, benefit package, core group of dedicated health care providers

    Cons

Lack of constructive intelligent leadership, atrocious interdisciplinary and service communication, underlying institutional ism's, pick one or all, demoralizing and degrading work environment, most importantly unsafe patient care environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If the same amount of effort was placed in building a professional environment as tearing it down you could produce an exceptional institution.
