I worked at Western Carolina University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

You get a lot of support from fellow instructors, and they really do want you to succeed. I never felt like anyone was against me; we were all in it together.

    Cons

Sometimes work can take your life over--but I think that's something you learn to deal with the more you do it. The stipend was arguably pretty low, but the experience was extremely valuable.

  2.

    Poor management

I worked at Western Carolina University full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The location is pretty and the mountains are very nice.

    Cons

The organization is very backwater, very sexist, racist, and homophobic. Its commitment to diversity is merely words. There are few opportunities for advancement for women, persons of color and LGBTQ individuals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Equal pay for women.

I worked at Western Carolina University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

As a student worker they care about your success as a student first, and the job second.
    Flexible schedule.
Depending on the job, you might be able to study during your breaks.

    Cons

Minimal wage, with not enough room to grow.
Sometimes communications from highers up are not clear through different departments and it gets taken out on the student worker.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes there needs to be a better flow of communication through all offices. When there's not, it gets take out on student workers who are just trying to do their best.
